Abstract: A continuous hot-dip plating apparatus has a roll assembly having superior resistance to erosion caused by the hot melt plating metal, as well as high resistance to wear of the shaft and bearings, which are immersed in the hot melt of the plating metal. A ceramic material is mounted on the sliding portions of the metallic roll shaft to make sliding contact with the metallic bearings and/or on the sliding surfaces of the metallic bearings which contact the metallic roll shaft. A clearance is left between the shafts and bearings to hold molten metal thereinbetween for lubrication.
Abstract: Method and apparatus are disclosed for injection molding an article having at least one sub-surface portion. The apparatus includes an article mold having at least one cavity with a wedge-receiving aperture and a wedge insertable within the wedge-receiving aperture for receiving the sub-surface portion of the article. The wedge is movable between a wedged position, wherein the wedge is firmly seated within the wedge-receiving aperture and an unwedged position, wherein the wedge is movable with respect to the article mold to free the sub-surface portion of the article when ejecting the article from the cavity. The sub-surface portion of the article can include a part to be held within the cavity during injection molding, or an injection molded portion of the article forming a normally die locked portion of the article. The apparatus can also include a multi-piece mold cavity removably engageable within aligned apertures of a separable mold base.

Abstract: An electrostatic paint spray gun having built-in high-voltage generator that is cast into insulating material is improved in that the dielectric strength is increased in the region of that face of the insulating member that is adjacent to the charging electrode. In a first solution, the high-voltage cascade is cast such into the plastic member for this purpose that its high-voltage output is situated adjacent the input transformer, whereby a small plug tube for the stranded electrode lead is additionally co-cast into the insulating member parallel to the cascade. In a second solution, an annular gap is left free between the stranded electrode lead and the insulating member, is filled with insulating oil and is sealed with a seal.
Abstract: A radially expandable and contractable tire building drum has a drawbar positioned along the centerline of the drum, a slidable cone fixed to the drawbar, and a plurality of slides connected to the cone and extending in a radial array therefrom. The slides are guided for motion only radially toward and away from the centerline. Each slide carries a corresponding drum segment having an arcuate outer surface, and the surfaces of the segment cooperate to form a cylindrical building surface on the drum exterior. Motion of the drawbar along the centerline cause the conical adjusting member to move the slides concurrently in a radial direction, expanding or contracting the building surface. Edges of the drum segments arcuate surfaces include scallops, as in the form of tongues and corresponding cavities, which cooperate as the drum segments move outward to maintain some surface continuity lengthwise of the drum building surface.
