    Abstract: A transfer and molding apparatus for transferring an image or pattern from an elongate transfer film to a molded article. The transferring and molding apparatus includes a film feed-out mechanism for feeding the transfer film wound around a supply drum and introducing the transfer film between a stationary mold member and a movable mold member and a film take-up mechanism for taking up the transfer film positioned between the stationary mold member and the movable mold member onto a take-up drum. A longitudinal direction feeding device has a controlling motor for feeding the transfer film in a longitudinal direction thereof from the film feed-out mechanism toward the film take-up mechanism by a predetermined length during each molding cycle, and a longitudinal direction sensor for detects a position setting mark on the transfer film.

    Abstract: The known tire vulcanizing machine of the type in which upper and lower bolsters are disposed within a frame, upper and lower metal molds are respectively fixedly secured to the upper and lower bolsters, and a press mechanism for bringing the upper and lower metal molds into tight contact with each other under a pressure is disposed between the frame and either one of the bolsters, is improved so that a green tire loaded in the machine can be visually inspected up until just before the upper and lower metal molds come into tight contact with each other. In one preferred embodiment, a vertically movable pressure-receiving plate having a polygonal shape is rotatable between short-sized position in which it can vertically pass through a space between upper beams and a long-sized position in which it cannot vertically pass through the same. A rotary drive is provided for rotating the pressure-receiving plate about its center.

    Abstract: A cost effective method for realistically simulating a wood grain appearance on a door skin used to form a panel door includes compression molding a fiber reinforced polyester door skin having an outer surface with "closed" areas dense with deep grains and "open" areas with a generally lesser concentration of deep grains, the surface further having a predetermined surface roughness. The outer surface also has shallow grains in trim areas that are steeply angled with respect to the substantially planar door skin. A mixture of artist's oil cut 1:1 with mineral spirits on a fluid ounce basis is then sprayed onto the outer surface after molding. After twenty minutes, the mixture is rubbed in, and the door skin is dried vertically in a forced air oven for one hour at about 120.degree. F.

The sub-surface portion of the article can include a part to be held within the cavity during injection molding, or an injection molded portion of the article forming a normally die locked portion of the article. The apparatus can also include a multi-piece mold cavity removably engageable within aligned apertures of a separable mold base.

    Abstract: A radially expandable and contractable tire building drum has a drawbar positioned along the centerline of the drum, a slidable cone fixed to the drawbar, and a plurality of slides connected to the cone and extending in a radial array therefrom. The slides are guided for motion only radially toward and away from the centerline. Each slide carries a corresponding drum segment having an arcuate outer surface, and the surfaces of the segment cooperate to form a cylindrical building surface on the drum exterior. Motion of the drawbar along the centerline cause the conical adjusting member to move the slides concurrently in a radial direction, expanding or contracting the building surface. Edges of the drum segments arcuate surfaces include scallops, as in the form of tongues and corresponding cavities, which cooperate as the drum segments move outward to maintain some surface continuity lengthwise of the drum building surface.

The steaming jacket comprises a rubber sleeve on the interior of a cylindrical casing and secured and sealed at upper and lower axial ends of the rubber sleeve against the casing. The sleeve is swelled inwardly when heated high pressure fluid is passed through an internal space between the casing and the sleeve. The vulcanization apparatus is provided with steam supply and discharge pipes for the internal space of the jacket and steam supply and discharge pipes for the mold inserted into the jacket.
