  • Publication number: 20070000418
Abstract: An ice brake is presented that provides stopping traction on ice, snow, water, dirt, gravel, and solid ground. It is driven by a hydraulic ram to provide quick response. The brake has a blade with a bottom edge that has cutout portions to allow up to 50% debris accumulated by the brake to escape. This increases drag, because debris is forced to pass through these cutout sections. The brake is strong enough to apply sufficient loading force on ice to break a craft's hull free from being frozen down to ice, yet it is flexible enough to bend out of the way of rocks and other immovable objects.

  • Publication number: 20060228282
Abstract: An organically complexed nanocatalyst composition is applied to or mixed with coal prior to or upon introducing the coal into a coal burner in order to catalyze the removal of coal nitrogen from the coal and its conversion into nitrogen gas prior to combustion of the coal. This leads to reduced NOx production during coal combustion. The nanocatalyst compositions include a nanoparticle catalyst that is made using a dispersing agent. The dispersing agent includes at least one functional group such as a hydroxyl, a carboxyl, a carbonyl, an amine, an amide, a nitrile, a nitrogen having a free lone pair of electrons, an amino acid, a thiol, a sulfonic acid, a sulfonyl halide, and an. acyl halide. The dispersing agent forms stable, dispersed, nano-sized catalyst particles. The catalyst composition can be formed as a stable suspension to facilitate storage, transportation and application of the catalyst nanoparticles to a coal material.

  • Publication number: 20060197948
Abstract: A small-spot imaging, spectrometry instrument for measuring properties of a sample has a polarization-scrambling element, such as a birefringent plate depolarizer, incorporated between the polarization-introducing components of the system, such as the beamsplitter, and the microscope objective of the system. The plate depolarizer varies polarization with wavelength, and may be a Lyot depolarizer with two plates, or a depolarizer with more than two plates (such as a three-plate depolarizer). Sinusoidal perturbation in the resulting measured spectrum can be removed by data processing techniques or, if the depolarizer is thick or highly birefringent, the perturbation may be narrower than the wavelength resolution of the instrument.

  • Publication number: 20060196957
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for controlling the temperature of a mold such as for molding plastics, metal, ceramic, and die-casting. A circulator supporting a molding machine and consisting of a fixed displacement pump being driven by servo stepping motor and speed controlled by standard motor software, provides dynamic, real time flow control for metering of the thermal control fluid to the molding machine with a pre-set and/or adjustable flow rate profile appropriate to the molding machine and process. The pump meters the temperature control fluid to the control loop in precise units of volume, based on selected control inputs that may be based on any one or combination of time, machine cycle status, mold or process temperature, pressure, and flow rate variables, regardless of inlet or outlet loop pressure. It performs positive or negative pressure and various flow behaviors including fixed flow, variable flow, and pulsed flow.

  • Patent number: 7095496
Abstract: A calibration method suitable for highly precise and highly accurate surface metrology measurements is described. In preferred embodiments, an optical inspection tool including a movable optics system is characterized in terms of position and wavelength dependent quantities over a range of motion. Once the position-dependant quantities are determined at various wavelengths and positions, they are stored and used to interpret data from test wafers having an unknown metrology. Free of position-dependent variations and other information pertaining to the measurement system, the accuracy of the resulting wafer measurement more closely matches the precision of the tool than existing techniques. In particular embodiments, a portion of the characterization of the optical system is accomplished by using tilted black glass to provide a non-reflective reference.

  • Patent number: 7089923
Abstract: This invention is a inexpensive light weight portable compound bow press that is safer and easier to use. A bow press with a greater mechanical advantage, to be used in the complete maintenance of high powered compound bows having either two piece limbs or one piece limbs. This invention consists of two extending members. Each extending member connects to the outer end of one of the bows limbs, and extend over and away from the outer ends of the bow's first and second limbs. The first end of a liner adjusting apparatus is connected to the first extending member at a central position near the outer edge of the first extending member. The second end of the adjusting apparatus is connected to the second extending member at a central position near the outer edge of the second extending member. This arrangement positions the adjusting apparatus outside and away from the compound bow, allowing for safer and easier use. The adjusting apparatus allows the archer to exert an inward force on the extending members.
