Patent number: 11411845Abstract: In a network environment, network health is monitored by a monitoring platform and related monitoring services. A method may include receiving metrics data from a plurality of data sources, overlaying a traffic profile for a client of the network with the metrics data to determine an experience score for the client, and detecting an impairment in the network based on the metrics data and/or the experience score. The method may further include performing a triangulation process to determine a cause of the impairment in the network based on the metrics data, and generating, for display via a user interface, a report indicating the impairment and the cause of the impairment.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 2021Date of Patent: August 9, 2022Assignee: Amazon Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Abdul Salam Faisal Padinjareveetil, Amogh Dhananjay Dhamdhere, Aditya Srinivasan, Harvo Reyzell Jones, Snehal Mahadik

Publication number: 20170111665Abstract: Delivering a content stream within a content delivery network (CDN) includes recording the stream using a recording tier, and playing the stream using a player tier. For a live stream, recording the stream begins when the stream is received at a CDN entry point in a source format. The stream is then converted into an intermediate format (IF), which comprises a stream manifest, a set of one or more fragment indexes (FI), and a set of IF fragments. A player process begins when a requesting client is associated with a CDN HTTP proxy. In response to receipt at the HTTP proxy of a request for the stream, the HTTP proxy retrieves the stream manifest and at least one fragment index. Using the fragment index, the IF fragments are retrieved to the HTTP proxy, converted to a target format, and then served in response to the client request. Preferably, fragments are accessed, cached and served by the HTTP proxy via HTTP.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 26, 2016Publication date: April 20, 2017Inventors: Babu Suryanarayanan, Ronnie So, Mihar Parikh, Ashok Jaiprakash Lalwani, Abdul Salam Faisal Padinjareveetil, James Egerton

Patent number: 9532092Abstract: A method and apparatus for delivering a content stream is implemented within a content delivery network (CDN) and, in one embodiment, includes the high level functions of recording the stream using a recording tier, and playing the stream using a player tier. For a live stream, the step of recording the stream includes a set of sub-steps that begins when the stream is received at a CDN entry point in a source format. The stream is then converted into an intermediate format (IF), which is an internal format for delivering the stream within the CDN and comprises a stream manifest, a set of one or more fragment indexes (FI), and a set of IF fragments. The player process begins when a requesting client is associated with a CDN HTTP proxy. In response to receipt at the HTTP proxy of a request for the stream or a portion thereof, the HTTP proxy retrieves (either from the archive or the data store) the stream manifest and at least one fragment index.Type: GrantFiled: December 30, 2010Date of Patent: December 27, 2016Assignee: Akamai Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Babu Suryanarayanan, Ronnie So, Mihir Parikh, Ashok Jaiprakash Lalwani, Abdul Salam Faisal Padinjareveetil, James Egerton

Patent number: 8904559Abstract: An apparatus for enforcing a media stream delivery restriction uses a stream control service (SCS). The SCS is implemented in a distributed network, such as a CDN, in which a given media stream is delivered to authorized end users from multiple delivery servers, but where an authorized end user is associated with a single log-in identifier that is not intended to be shared with other end users. According to the method, an enforcement server of the SCS identifies first and second copies of the given media stream associated with the single log-in identifier being delivered from multiple delivery servers. It then issues message to terminate delivery of the given media stream from at least one of the multiple delivery servers.Type: GrantFiled: December 30, 2013Date of Patent: December 2, 2014Assignee: Akamai Technologies, Inc.Inventor: Abdul Salam Faisal Padinjareveetil

Publication number: 20100211776Abstract: The present invention is implemented within a distributed network operating environment (such as a CDN) in which content providers offload given content for delivery from servers (e.g., CDN edge servers) managed by a service provider (such as a CDN operator). It is assumed that the given content is secured using a digital rights management (DRM) scheme. According to the invention, a distributed set of license server processes are provided to manage the issuance of content licenses. Each of the license server processes is operative to generate licenses by which a given end user client obtains given rights for given content, typically the content served from the machine. A distributed set of license server processes operates in a de-centralized manner and without access to third party business logic (e.g., a payment mechanism) or authentication information associated with end users requesting the given content.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 3, 2010Publication date: August 19, 2010Inventors: Lakshminarayanan Gunaseelan, Abdul Salam Faisal Padinjareveetil
