  • Publication number: 20070033804
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method for producing a fluid treatment device having a honeycomb member in a metallic cylindrical housing with a shock absorbent member wrapped around the honeycomb member. The method comprises the steps of (1) inserting the honeycomb member with the shock absorbent member wrapped around the honeycomb member, into the cylindrical housing, (2) forming a necking portion on at least one end portion of the cylindrical housing, with a body portion thereof being clamped, and (3) reducing a diameter of at least a part of the cylindrical housing with the shock absorbent member received therein, together with the shock absorbent member, to such an extent that a desired inner diameter of the part of the cylindrical housing is provided enough to cause the shock absorbent member to produce a desired holding pressure for holding the honeycomb member in the cylindrical housing.

  • Patent number: 7174635
Abstract: A method includes the steps of (1) wrapping a shock absorbent member around a columnar member, (2) supporting one end portion of a cylindrical housing on a support member, (3) arranging the columnar member in a cylindrical guide member formed with the tapered portion inside thereof, (4) inserting the shock absorbent member and the columnar member into the cylindrical housing through the tapered portion, (5) pressing a pushing member to the columnar member so as to be moved along the longitudinal axis thereof relative to the cylindrical housing, to accommodate the shock absorbent member and the columnar member in the cylindrical housing, (6) moving the support member and a shrinking mechanism relative to each other, and (7) actuating the shrinking mechanism to reduce the diameter of a part of the cylindrical housing.

  • Patent number: 7111392
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method of producing a container such as a catalytic converter for holding a fragile substrate in a cylindrical housing with a shock absorbent member wrapped around the substrate, with an appropriate holding force determined on the basis of frictional force between the shock absorbent member and the one with the smaller coefficient of friction out of the substrate and the cylindrical housing.

  • Patent number: 6530256
Abstract: There are disclosed an expanded tube processing method and expanded tube processing apparatus of a cylindrical tube, for inclining an opening end portion of a work formed of the cylindrical tube of metal with respect to an axis of a work to perform tube expansion, in which in order to simply perform an expanded tube processing, a punch is disposed on an opening end side of the work of the metal cylindrical tube and the punch is inserted from the work opening end to perform the tube expansion on a work end. A punch 18 is inserted from the work opening end at a predetermined angle to a tube axis A of a work 6. During insertion of the punch 18, the punch 18 and/or the work 6 are moved in a direction Y1-Y2 substantially crossing at right angles to an advancing/retreating drive direction Z1-Z2 of the punch 18 to perform the expanded tube processing.

  • Patent number: 6223434
Abstract: A muffler is constructed by inner and outer pipes, in which opposite end portions of the outer pipe are reduced in diameter, a welding portion of the inner pipe is accurately formed, and in this muffler, in order that a welding portion of the inner pipe can be accurately formed and that the outer pipe can be reduced in diameter uniformly over an entire periphery thereof to compress a buffer member uniformly over an entire periphery thereof, the inner pipe (2), having the buffer member (8) fitted on one end portion 2a thereof, is held within the outer pipe (1), held in position, in such a manner that a predetermined gap is formed between the inner and outer pipes (2) and (1). Subsequently, a diameter of the other end portion (1b) of the outer pipe (1) remote from the buffer member (8) is reduced, thereby fixedly securing this other end portion to the other end portion 1b of the inner pipe (2).
