    Abstract: A flexible display includes a foldable display coupled to a foldable substrate. The foldable substrate is preformed to maintain a curvilinear three-dimensional shape when in a neutral, force-free state. The curvilinear three-dimensional shape can simulate one or more contours of an electronic device housing to which the flexible display is attached, thereby reducing or minimizing stress loads on the flexible display as the electronic device housing transitions between an axially displaced open position and a closed position.

The phase-change material can change phase to actuate an interference with an electrochemistry of the anode-electrolyte-cathode stack proximate an area where a localized temperature exceeds a predefined phase change threshold, the interference with the electrochemistry, which decreases current generation within the anode-electrolyte-cathode stack, can be adapted to occur prior to reaching a temperature that can create a failure within the anode-electrolyte-cathode stack.

    Abstract: A foldable display has multiple layers, including at least a display layer that creates the display that users see when looking at the foldable display and a stiff support layer that provides the display layer with support despite the foldable nature of the display. An adhesive layer binds the display layer to the stiff support layer. The stiff support layer has a stiffness that is at least six times greater than the stiffness of the adhesive layer and at least six times greater than the stiffness of the display layer. Given the foldable nature of the display, there is typically a hinge system below part of the display. In situations in which pressure is applied to the foldable display (e.g., by a user's finger or stylus), the stiffness of the stiff support layer prevents the display from being damaged despite the presence of the hinge system.
