  • Publication number: 20200260598
Abstract: An electronic device includes a hinge coupling at least a first device housing to a second device housing. A flexible display is coupled to the first device housing and the second device housing and spans the hinge. The first device housing defines a curvilinear recess forming at least some of the flexible display into an asymmetrical service loop when the first device housing and the second device housing pivot about the hinge from an axially displaced open position to a closed position. Additional hinges and device housings can be added to accommodate flexible displays of varying lengths.

  • Publication number: 20200241594
Abstract: A foldable display has multiple layers, including at least a display layer that creates the display that users see when looking at the foldable display and a stiff support layer that provides the display layer with support despite the foldable nature of the display. An adhesive layer binds the display layer to the stiff support layer. The stiff support layer has a stiffness that is at least six times greater than the stiffness of the adhesive layer and at least six times greater than the stiffness of the display layer. Given the foldable nature of the display, there is typically a hinge system below part of the display. In situations in which pressure is applied to the foldable display (e.g., by a user's finger or stylus), the stiffness of the stiff support layer prevents the display from being damaged despite the presence of the hinge system.

  • Patent number: 10638450
Abstract: An alert peripheral device that provides sensory notification to a user of the device includes: a power subsystem; a communication mechanism by which notification signals is received from a first user equipment (UE) that generates and transmits the notification signals in response to detection of specific events at the first UE; and a response notification mechanism that provides a sensory response of the peripheral device following receipt of a notification of a detected event (NDE) signal. The device further includes an embedded controller coupled to each of the other components and which includes firmware that when executed on the embedded controller configures the embedded controller to: establish a communication link between the communication mechanism and the first UE; and in response to detecting a receipt of the NDE signal from the first UE, trigger the response notification mechanism to exhibit the sensory response.

  • Patent number: 10616460
Abstract: A display has an array of pixel structures. Each pixel structure includes a plurality of electroluminescent elements. The array of pixel structures can be arranged on a substrate. One or more pixel structures selected from the array of pixel structures each include a microlens interspacing one or more of the electroluminescent elements. Image sensors can then receive light propagating through the microlens. One or more processors can synthesize images capture by the image sensors to form a composite image.

  • Patent number: 10574876
Abstract: In implementations of photography environment control, an environment controller is a device that maintains a photography environment map of an environment in which images are captured as photographs. The photography environment map includes locations of fixed light sources that are usable to illuminate a subject for image capture in a region of the environment. The environment controller implements an imaging recommendation module that can determine optimal lighting for the image capture of the subject in the region of the environment. The environment controller can then control the fixed light sources used to adjust ambient lighting conditions of the region in the environment for the optimal lighting and the image capture of the subject. The environment controller can also initiate communication of imaging recommendations to a camera device in the environment for the image capture of the subject.

  • Patent number: 10514589
Abstract: A mobile device includes a device housing with an opening there through, the housing having a front external surface and a back external surface. A camera housing is sized to fit within the opening in the device housing, the camera housing including two cameras and two respective lenses. In a centered position, the lenses protrude beyond the front and back surfaces of the mobile device. A retention mechanism applies a force to the camera housing to retain it substantially centered in the opening unless an outside force of damaging magnitude is encountered.

  • Patent number: 10469723
Abstract: In implementations of photography lighting control, a camera device includes a camera to capture an image of a subject in an environment. The camera device implements an image exposure module that can determine ambient lighting conditions of the environment, and discover fixed light sources that are usable to illuminate the subject for image capture in the environment. The image exposure module can determine optimal lighting for the image capture of the subject in the environment, as well as control one or more of the fixed light sources used to adjust the ambient lighting conditions of the environment for the optimal lighting and the image capture of the subject. The image exposure module can then initiate use of the controlled fixed light sources to capture the image of the subject.

  • Patent number: 10180918
Abstract: The present invention provides a mobile wireless communication system, network, and method for managing the use of one or more peripherals with a mobile wireless communication device in connection with an upcoming event. The method includes associating one or more peripherals with one or more users, where the one or more peripherals have an extended capability for use with a mobile wireless communication device, and maintaining a list of the peripheral associations and the respective extended capabilities. Upcoming events and any need for corresponding event supporting capabilities are monitored. Any unmet need for event supporting capabilities is compared with the extended capability of peripherals associated with at least some of the one or more users that will be attending the upcoming event.
