Patent number: 8493422Abstract: A method is provided to manufacture displays such as, for example, reflective displays, electrophoretic displays or liquid crystal displays. In one embodiment of the invention, a method is provided for aligning a patterned layer of color filter elements with a display assembly. The method includes activating a first set of addressable pixel elements to change an activation state of each pixel element in the first set of the pixel elements. A required alignment of the patterned layer of color filter elements with the display assembly can be determined based at least on the activated first or a second set of the pixel elements. The patterned layer of color filter elements is aligned with the display assembly according to the required alignment.Type: GrantFiled: April 24, 2008Date of Patent: July 23, 2013Assignee: Kodak Graphic Communications Canada CompanyInventor: Aldo Salvestro

Patent number: 8436882Abstract: A method for forming an image on media is provided which includes controlling an imaging head to emit radiation beams to form the image while scanning over the media along a scan direction. The image can include a feature that has an edge portion that extends in a direction that is skewed by a skew angle with respect to the scan direction. Each radiation beam can be controllable to vary a size of a pixel formed on the media by the radiation beam. Each pixel has a first size along a first direction and a second size along a second direction that intersects the first direction. In one embodiment, the second size is different than the first size and is determined based at least on the skew angle and the first size.Type: GrantFiled: January 30, 2008Date of Patent: May 7, 2013Assignee: Kodak Graphic Communications Canada CompanyInventor: Aldo Salvestro

Patent number: 8427698Abstract: A method for forming an image comprising a first halftone image having a first screen angle and a second halftone image having a second screen angle. A recording head forms a plurality of image swaths. Each swath is merged with another swath at a merge line. A row of cells in the first halftone image is selected and a first sub-scan pitch of the cells in the row cells is determined. A first sub-scan spacing between two adjacent merge lines in the first group of swaths is equal to an integer multiple of a first sub-scan pitch. A row of cells in the second halftone image is selected and a second sub-scan pitch of the second cells in the row of second unit cells is determined. The recording head is reconfigured by disabling at least one of the recording channels forms the second halftone image.Type: GrantFiled: August 19, 2009Date of Patent: April 23, 2013Assignee: Eastman Kodak CompanyInventors: John Swanson, Aldo Salvestro

Patent number: 8358431Abstract: The present invention provides methods for forming an image with orthogonality corrected image data. A recording head includes a plurality of recording channels which form an image on media. Each recording channel forms an image pixel column. An image data file includes a plurality of image data columns. Different portions of each of a first image data column and a second image data column are assigned to different recording channels. First image data from a portion of the first image data column is substituted with zero image data and is assigned along with image data from another portion of the second image data column to a first recording channel which forms a first image pixel column. The first image data can also be assigned to a second recording channel which forms a second image pixel column. The second image data column is formed while scanning along a direction different than the scanning direction employed to form the first image pixel column.Type: GrantFiled: March 4, 2009Date of Patent: January 22, 2013Assignee: Eastman Kodak CompanyInventor: Aldo Salvestro

Patent number: 8330783Abstract: A method is provided for forming an image of a pattern of features on media which includes determining a pitch of the features along first and second directions and determining a first size of a first pixel based at least on the pitch of the features along the first direction. A second size of a second pixel is determined based at least on the pitch of the features along the second direction. An offset is determined along the scan direction between a first and second scan-line of pixels, based at least on the skew angle and the first size.
