    Abstract: Methods and co-cultures for biodegrading contaminants are described. A method can include contacting a contaminated substance with a microbial mixture under anaerobic conditions and causing degradation of contaminants by metabolism of the microbes in the microbial mixture. The co-culture can include aerobic microbes like Pseudonocardia and related genera along with anaerobic microbes of Dehalococcoides and related genera.
