  • Patent number: 4191322
Abstract: A closure member constructed from a single flat blank and having an annular flange extending from a flat central portion, the outer surface of the annular flange being substantially continuous, is provided by forming a plurality of pleats running generally perpendicular to the perimeter of the flange and projecting toward the inside of the annular flange.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 30, 1978
Date of Patent: March 4, 1980
    Assignee: Phillips Petroleum Company
    Inventor: Alfred W. Kinney
  • Patent number: 4184613
Abstract: Production of a patterned product is accomplished by forming a plurality of product streams into a patterned product stream having a desired cross sectional pattern or configuration, then dispensing the patterned product stream into a product container. The cross sectional pattern of the packaged product is substantially the same as the cross section of the patterned product stream even though the diameter of the container may be substantially greater than the diameter of the patterned product stream dispensed into it.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 31, 1976
Date of Patent: January 22, 1980
    Assignee: Phillips Petroleum Company
    Inventor: Alfred W. Kinney
  • Patent number: 4136720
Abstract: Production of a marbled product is accomplished by associating a plurality of product constituent streamlets in a desired cross-sectional pattern or configuration, diverting a portion of one or more of the product constituent streamlets of the pattern into one or more of the other product constituent streamlets of the pattern, joining the associated streamlets into a unified marbled product stream, and then dispensing the marbled product stream into a product container.

  • Patent number: 4015644
Abstract: A variegated product comprising a generally liquid material distributed within a generally plastic material is produced by flowing said plastic material through a mixing chamber wherein said liquid material is injected into the plastic material through one or more ribbon tubes. The combined product is then passed through a filler valve into a container. Variation of the orientation of the ribbon tube outlets with respect to the location of the plastic material inlet of the mixing chamber can be used to change the distribution of liquid material within the plastic material in the filled container to yield either an at least substantially uniformly variegated product wherein all components are visible through a transparent container or an at least substantially uniform variegated product in which the liquid material does not contact the container and is totally encapsulated within the plastic material.

  • Patent number: 3994117
Abstract: An apparatus for high speed filling of containers with product such as ice cream and the like. The apparatus includes a turret driven by power means for moving containers from a feed station to a fill station for filling of the container and then to a capping station for placing a cap on the container and finally to a removal station. A lift is provided to move the containers toward and away from a dispensing nozzle which dispenses product into the containers. Pneumatic control means are provided to cooperate with the lift and a shut-off valve in the dispensing nozzle for independent adjustment of the timing of the operations thereof.

  • Patent number: 3940014
Abstract: The flow of containers along a first conveyor providing a supply of unfilled containers to a filling machine is interrupted, with containers from the first conveyor being transferred to a second conveyor which, in turn, supplies containers to a filling machine. Each time a container is delivered from the secondary conveyor into the filling machine an additional container is transferred from the first conveyor to the secondary conveyor. Timing of containers entering the secondary conveyor is controlled to avoid interference with dispensing apparatus placing containers into the filling machine.

  • Patent number: 3938697
Abstract: Generally circular articles within a row of similar articles are conveyed and dispensed from the end of the row. When the row of articles is substantially depleted a magazine containing another row of the articles is advanced to bring the additional row of articles in contact with the conveying shaft. A method and apparatus are provided for automatically actuating and advancing the magazine and for returning it to its original position when all articles contained therein have been delivered to the conveyor.
