  • Patent number: 4990265
Abstract: A method of dewatering oil mud that occurs on board ships during the processing of heavy, diesel, and lubricating oils and consists of a mixture of water and mineral-oil residue that is intercepted on board and subjected to centrifuging. The liquids contaminated with mineral-oil residue that occur on board are collected in two separate containers. The liquids that contain heavy oil and diesel oil are conveyed to the first container and the liquids that contain lubricating oil are conveyed to the second container along with the water that occurs when the oils are processed. The contents of the containers are then conveyed sequentially to one and the same centrifuging device to concentrate the solids. The resulting liquid phases are subjected to separate further processing with on-board equipment, allowing complete disposal or further use of the liquids.

  • Patent number: 4871349
Abstract: A centrifuge for separating mixtures of liquids. The drum has an upper diversion chamber and a lower diversion chamber that divert the fractionated constituent of the liquid out of the drum and that are separated by a replaceable lid. At least one of the diversion chambers has a peeling structure that is provided with channels and an intake pipe that supplies the mixture of liquids. The drum can be equipped with another chamber lid and with another peeling structure with channels and an intake pipe. The channels in the second peeling structure open into the intake pipe and the second chamber lid unites the two diversion chambers into a single chamber.

  • Patent number: 4689157
Abstract: The method is carried out with a self-emptying separator. Used mineral oil is supplied to its centrifuge drum through a central intake. Purified oil is extracted through a run-off. The separator also has another run-off for liquid extracted from the periphery of the drum. The second run-off is supplied from a sampler. A sensor is positioned in the second run-off. The sensor determines the consistency of the liquid. Downstream of the sensor is a water run-off valve. A line branches off between the sensor and the water run-off valve. The line is provided with a circulation-system valve and empties into the intake. When the circulation-system valve is open and the sensor determines from the consistency of the liquid flowing through the second run-off that the liquid is an emulsion of oil and water, it supplies the result to controls. The controls then close the circulation-system valve for a prescribed amount of time.

  • Patent number: 4411645
Abstract: A system of self-purging centrifugal separators for the separation and clarification of liquids, especially heavy oil, which contain solids, has a first separator serving for preliminary separation and a second, clarifying separator connected to the output of the first. Each of these separators is purged of accumulated solids by means of associated controls, the second separator being additionally provided with an automatic purging control. The solids chamber of the clarifier drum is smaller than that of the drum of the first separator and the purging control communicates through a control line with an evaluator and the evaluator in turn communicates with the controls and/or with an alarm, whereby a premature disturbance due to the accumulation of sludge in the first separator is detected and eliminated by extra purges or is signaled by means of the alarm.

  • Patent number: 4026462
Abstract: A centrifugal separator suitable for separating a mixture of a specifically lighter liquid, a specifically heavier liquid, and solids. The separator comprises a disk stack 9 adjacent the drum axis, and a second disk stack 12 in the centrifuging zone 10 between disk stack 9 and the periphery of the drum. The specifically heavier liquid fraction leaves the drum via passageways 20 and discharge openings 21. The separator is well suited to separation of water-oil mixtures containing sludge and metal particles.
