Publication number: 20170257807Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure relate to performing a tune-away from a first radio access technology (RAT) to a second RAT. These techniques include, for example, a method in which one or more radio resources of a user equipment are tuned away from the first RAT (e.g., LTE technology) to the second RAT (e.g., legacy 2G/3G technology and/or Wi-Fi or Bluetooth technology). Based on detecting a need to tune away one or more radio resources, the UE may then determine a tune-away metric for each serving cell based on one or more performance impact factors associated with the serving cell being tuned away. The UE may select one or more of the cells to be tuned away based on the determined tune-away metrics. The UE may then tune one or more radio resources corresponding to the selected at least one cell away from the first RAT to the second RAT.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 1, 2016Publication date: September 7, 2017Inventors: Leena ZACHARIAS, Aziz GHOLMIEH, Thiagarajan SIVANADYAN, Amit MAHAJAN

Patent number: 9578601Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices are described for managing power of a user equipment (UE). A UE modem may determine the state of charge of the battery to determine that the battery is in one of two or more charge state levels, and may invoke one or more modem power saving modes based on the charge state level. Power saving modes may include, for example, reducing a number of available receive chains in a UE, initiating a time delay between one or more frequency scan requests performed by the UE, reducing a rate of neighbor search requests performed by the UE, providing a buffer status report (BSR) parameter that indicates a reduced amount of buffer data relative to an actual amount of buffer data for the UE, and/or adjusting a maximum transmit power level for an uplink channel.Type: GrantFiled: March 17, 2014Date of Patent: February 21, 2017Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Vasanth Kumar Ramkumar, Srinivasan Rajagopalan, Jeffrey A. Patent number: 9408048Abstract: A user device includes a controlling application for a child's wearable device. A network device receives configuration settings for an event widget that activates the wearable device to send a prepared text message to a trusted contact and to receive a pre-recorded audio message from the trusted contact. The network device downloads the event widget to the wearable device and receives a selection signal that the event widget was selected. The network device authorizes the wearable device to send the prepared text message to the trusted contact when the widget selection time or current location for the wearable device matches the stored configuration settings. The network device receives, from the trusted contact, an acknowledgement of the prepared text message and sends the pre-recorded audio message to the wearable device. The network device facilitates communications between the trusted contact and the controlling application to provide live video from the user device.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 2015Date of Patent: August 2, 2016Assignee: VERIZON PATENT AND LICENSING INC.Inventors: Vijayanand K. Publication number: 20160205663Abstract: Embodiments include methods implemented by a processor of a mobile communication device for managing tune-aways by a radio frequency resource supporting a first subscription to support a second subscription. The processor may determine a data loss ratio of the data of a media file that is lost in transmission to the mobile communication device. The processor may compare the data loss ratio of the data to a first data loss ratio threshold and a second data loss ratio threshold, and the processor may block a tune-away event of the radio frequency resource from the first subscription to the second subscription in response to determining that the data loss ratio of the data is greater than the first data loss ratio threshold and less than the second data loss ratio threshold.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 24, 2015Publication date: July 14, 2016Inventors: Jack Shyh-Hurng Shauh, Sivaramakrishna Veerepalli, Shailesh Maheshwari, Daniel Amerga, Kuo-Chun Lee, Mohan Krishna Gowda, Ralph Akram Gholmieh, Nagaraju Naik, Nermeen Ahmed Bassiouny, Thadi Manjunath Nagaraj, Amit Mahajan, Reza Shahidi, Pavan Kaivaram, Ramchandran Srinivasan, Alexey Semjonovs, Adrian Prentice, Marc Azar, Srinivasan Rajagopalan

Patent number: 9392514Abstract: Methods, apparatus, and computer program products for managing mobility in a multi-radio device are provided. One example method generally includes detecting that a first channel is not usable for communicating via a first radio access technology (RAT); receiving a message to redirect from a second channel to the first channel; determining the first channel is in a set of one or more blocked channels not usable for the first RAT; and in response to the determination, taking one or more actions. Another example method generally includes detecting that a first channel is not usable for communicating via a first RAT and providing an indication to a network that a user equipment (UE) no longer supports the first channel.Type: GrantFiled: July 29, 2015Date of Patent: July 12, 2016Assignee: QUALCOMM INCORPORATEDInventors: Shyamal Ramachandran, Thomas Klingenbrunn, Aziz Gholmieh, Amit Mahajan

Patent number: 9390243Abstract: A method is provided for a dynamic trust score for evaluating ongoing online relationships. By considering a plurality of user data variables and using validation data from internal and external database sources, a trust score with a high degree of confidence may be provided for establishing and verifying online relationships. Since the trust score may be dynamically recalculated periodically or on demand, the trust score may also validate over continuing periods of time, as opposed to conventional verification systems that only validate at a single point in time. Thus, a higher degree of safety, reliability, and control is provided for online services directed towards children or other user classes that may require greater protection.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 2012Date of Patent: July 12, 2016Assignee: Disney Enterprises, Inc.Inventors: Mandeep Dhillon, Rajveer Tut, Kerry Snyder, Jasjot Sodhi, Joshua Dzielak, Amit Mahajan, Derek E. Patent number: 9374469Abstract: Devices and methods are provided for implementing a network resource management system that reduces network signaling traffic through a network. A network server utilizing a communication signaling protocol is configured with functionality that reduces call set-up signaling traffic. Instead of exchanging communication signaling protocol related signaling between a calling end user device and a destination end user device when attempting to set up the call, the disclosed examples provide for determining a call status of the destination end user device before sending any communication signaling protocol related messages to the destination end user device. If the destination end user device is unavailable or is on another call, the network server uses communication signaling protocol related messages to connect the calling end user device with a voice mail server related to the destination end user device and foregoes sending communication signaling protocol related messages to the destination end user device.Type: GrantFiled: March 13, 2014Date of Patent: June 21, 2016Assignee: Cellco PartnershipInventors: Amit Mahajan, Muhammad Salman Nomani

Patent number: 9323296Abstract: A system, a method and an apparatus are described. The apparatus includes a modem that responds to a thermal mitigation request by invoking different levels of thermal mitigation for different concurrently active connections. In some instances, the modem may invoke thermal mitigation with respect to a first active connection and refrain from invoking thermal mitigation with respect to a second active connection maintained by the modem. The apparatus determines the first and second active connections based on subscriptions corresponding to subscriber identification modules, an identification of a power amplifier or group of power amplifiers responsible for a thermal issue in the modem. The selection of mitigation levels for each active connection and decisions to invoke mitigation on one connection while refraining from invoking mitigation on another connection may be based on priorities of the active connections, including quality of service related priorities.Type: GrantFiled: June 17, 2013Date of Patent: April 26, 2016Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Francis M.
