Abstract: A method for establishing a connection to a wireless local area network connection through an access point on a target device having a limited user interface through a wireless personal area network connection between the target device and a controlling device with a superior user interface, such as a smart phone. The process of establishing a connection begins with the creation of a wireless personal area network connection bond between the target device and the controlling device. One the bond is created, the configuration and authentication information required to connect to the access point is provided to the target device from the controlling device. Following the provision of the authentication information, the target device then establishes the desired connection to the access point with the authentication information.

Abstract: A system and method for initiating a VPN connection for the purposes of establishing an indirect connection to a network resource through the VPN includes an initiation device, an end target, and a VPN server. The process through which a VPN connection is initiated in order to establish a connection to a network destination through the VPN begins with the initiation device being directed to or otherwise attempting the access a target network destination. This connection attempt is then held, either because the destination is blocked or because it defines a secure address that requires a secure connection. Then, the initiation device contacts a VPN server and establishes a connection to the VPN server's network. Once connected to the VPN server's network, the initiation device allows the connection to be made to the target network destination through the initiation device's connection the VPN server's network.

The system employs an antenna, a media receiver/player and/or display, and a datacenter. The antenna is placed with line of sight to broadcast towers and is provided with clean wiring from the antenna through the building to a the TV. A high performance TV tuner and a demodulator are included in the TV or STB. A datacenter located in relevant Television Market Area is incorporated to receive, process and make available correction packets over a network. Under typical circumstances, an OTV television signal as broadcast contains degradation in the form of a number of error packets in the broadcast stream by the time it is received by an antenna. The system employed detects and marks of error packets and replaces them with good packets delivered over a network.
