    Abstract: Examples of a computer system for malware detection and recovery include a computer having a processor and a memory having untrusted partition having untrusted data files and a trusted partition connected to the untrusted partition and having a backup application. The trusted partition may not be modifiable by the untrusted partition. The computer may be configured to detect whether a malware attack of the untrusted partition has occurred. In accordance with detecting that the malware attack has not occurred, the computer creates a trusted backup by storing at least some untrusted data files to a backup memory that is not modifiable by the untrusted partition. In accordance with detecting that the malware attack has occurred, the computer may prevent the creation of an additional trusted backup and may restore compromised files from the trusted backup.

The system includes multiple controllers associated in a group and configured to communicate with each other, each having an initial controller identification (ID) number and configured to communicate with a gateway controller. Each controller in the group is configured to calculate an updated controller ID number and transmit the updated controller ID to the gateway controller in a secure fashion, and the gateway controller is configured to authenticate and transmit the updated controller ID of each controller in the group to all the controllers in the group in a secure fashion. External noise will affect multiple flip-flops in a larger random number generator circuit in the same way, since they are physically close. Thus, the ability to influence the operation of a random number generator using external noise is reduced by incorporating a plurality of flip-flops, referred to herein as core random elements, in a single random number generator. If one of the core random elements in a random number generator is influenced by noise, all of the core random elements will be influenced by the noise. Thus, if all (or most) of the core random elements issue a random bit at the same time, there is a possibility that the random number generator was influenced by noise, and all the issued bits are discarded.
