  • Publication number: 20220234817
Abstract: A system and method that provides for a crate consisting of main flooring section and additional side supports and horizontal beam bracing, that when assembled give the crate the rigidity to be stacked vertically, with multiple units on top of each other, with no other supporting structure. Safe lifting is ensured by fully enclosed fork pockets across the crate base. Safe stacking is ensured by using ISO shipping container casting, as part of the crate design along with top lug assembly to provide positive lateral restraint when stacked.

  • Publication number: 20200140214
Abstract: A military deployable ramp system assembled from sectional modules and used to load/unload heavy wheeled and tracked vehicles on/off rail cars and other transport platforms. The design of the system affords potential to handle such vehicles in a wide range of environments, particularly at remote train track locations. The assembled modular ramp consists of two main parallel load-bearing ramp tracks, connected to each other via central bridging supports. Sections slide together vertically and connect using structural angles which are retained in opposing guide channels, eliminating the need for fixing hardware. Once assembled the ramp can be dismantled by lifting off each section clear of the others in order. The ramp sections independently find their own level relative to each other on unprepared ground. Additional restraint is provided by integrated lashing points for sections to be tethered together to enhance its assembled rigidity.

  • Publication number: 20110196616
Abstract: This invention relates to an apparatus for and a method of measuring skin glow and/or skin radiance and/or skin shine and/or the biological age of the skin of an individual. As an individual ages, their appearance changes due to structural alterations to their tissues. These visible signs of aging, such as loss of skin glow or radiance, mean that other individuals are an indication of the age of an individual. In a population of individuals, some will appear younger and some will appear older than their chronological age. In these cases the aforementioned visible signs of aging are an indication of how well the skin of the individual is aging, in other words an indication of the biological age of the skin of the individual. Trained human age assessors are able to reproducibly determine the biological age of the skin of the individual. However automation would facilitate its use in almost any research or consumer setting.

  • Patent number: 7175808
Abstract: A portable micro-organism inactivation system comprising: a casing mounting, a UV radiation source, a pump, and releasable tube support for supporting an elongate tube to define a flow path extending therethrough which is substantially free of substantial discontinuities are provided by the present invention. The elongate tube has a first portion and a second portion wherein the first portion has a UV-transparent wall. The first portion extends in close proximity to the UV radiation source within an irradiation zone thereof while the second portion is interfaced with the pump for pumping of fluid through the system so that substantially the whole of said individual fluid unit is exposed to a similar micro-organism inactivating level of UV-irradiation, while minimizing damage to the desired components thereof. The invention also provides a method of micro-organism inactivation in a fluid using a system of the invention.

  • Publication number: 20060145092
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for monitoring temporal variation in irradiating radiation received by a material, comprising the steps of: providing a flow of an actinometric fluid (4) through a monitoring portion (22) of a passage (10), such that said actinometric fluid therein intercepts a flux of said irradiating radiation (13) representative of the flux of the radiation received by the material; and analysing said actinometric fluid (4) downstream of said monitoring portion (22) so as to measure a change in said actinometric fluid due to irradiation by said intercepted radiation flux. The invention also provides an apparatus for use in the above method.

  • Patent number: 6586172
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for effective inactivation of micro-organisms in fluids with relatively high absorbance so as to limit damage. The apparatus has a large diameter passage (2) flow-through UV radiation system with a static mixer system (11) providing an intensive fluid flow mixing within an irradiation area in which the fluid flow is controlled to provide a flow rate not less than a minimum flow rate corresponding to a maximum fluid residence time within said irradiation area required for efficient mixing, and a maximum flow rate providing a minimum residence time for effective inactivation.

  • Patent number: 6464936
Abstract: A device suitable for use in the sterilization of a fluid such as a biological fluid or a fraction thereof, containing lymphocytes and/or micro-organisms, comprising a vessel having an inlet and an outlet and a passage which extends non-tortuously therebetween. A heat exchange device with a heat exchange surface is in substantially direct thermal contact with the interior of the passage. A temperature controller maintains the temperature of fluid in the passage below a temperature at which fluid components may form insoluble particles during irradiation. The passage has a wall which is substantially transparent to a lymphocyte and/or micro-organism inactivating radiation. The passage contains a static mixer device for thoroughly mixing the fluid so as to bring the whole of the fluid into an irradiation zone extending along and adjacent the passage walls and into contact with the heat exchange surface.
