  • Publication number: 20240056045
Abstract: An amplifier power attenuator utilizes an amplified audio feedback signal from an audio amplifier (which is driving a loudspeaker), along with a user-set impedance and a maximum voltage set-point reflective of the operational parameters of the loudspeaker, to attenuate an audio signal prior to amplification thereby preventing damage to the loudspeaker. The impedance of a variable impedance optocoupler is changed to adjust the attenuation of the audio signal to one of a plurality of predetermined attenuation levels responsive to an error between a voltage level of the feedback signal and the maximum voltage set-point. The error is reflected in a counter value having a linear or non-linear relationship with the error dependent upon a magnitude of the error; the counter value is assessed against a plurality of target values associated with respective ones of the predetermined attenuation levels to identify the attenuation to be applied to the audio signal.

  • Patent number: 11594955
Abstract: A current-averaging audio amplifier for vehicles. The current averaging audio amplifier is connectable to a DC power source and a load, and may generally comprise a power input to receive a DC electrical power from the DC power source. The system may further include a voltage converter, such as a boost converter, connected to the power input, such that the voltage converter can receive electrical power from the DC power source. The system also includes a rechargeable battery coupled to the voltage converter, such that the voltage converter charges the rechargeable battery. An audio amplifier can be powered by the rechargeable battery and connectable to supply power to the load, wherein the average power supplied by the rechargeable battery to the audio amplifier in a finite time interval differs from the average power supplied by the DC power source to the voltage converter.

  • Patent number: 9313596
Abstract: An audio signal distortion detection device for simplifying the detection of harmonic distortion to aid in setting an amplifier's gain control to match an audio source unit's output voltage. The audio signal distortion detection device generally includes a housing having a plurality of status indicators thereon for indicating the status of an audio signal being fed into the housing's audio input. By utilizing a scaling circuit and processing unit, the present invention may be configured to detect four audio frequencies and compare DC levels of the frequencies to each other to determine if harmonic distortion is present. A distortion illuminator will illuminate when such distortion is detected and thus significantly reduce the effort required to setting an amplifier's gain control.
