Patent number: 10728687Abstract: Described herein is a method (30) of rendering an audio signal (17) for playback in an audio environment (27) defined by a target loudspeaker system (23), the audio signal (17) including audio data relating to an audio object and associated position data indicative of an object position. Method (30) includes the initial step (31) of receiving the audio signal (17). At step (32) loudspeaker layout data for the target loudspeaker system (23) is received. At step (33) control data is received that is indicative of a position modification to be applied to the audio object in the audio environment (27). At step (38) in response to the position data, loudspeaker layout data and control data, rendering modification data is generated. Finally, at step (39) the audio signal (17) is rendered with the rendering modification data to output the audio signal (17) with the audio object at a modified object position that is between loudspeakers within the audio environment (27).Type: GrantFiled: April 3, 2019Date of Patent: July 28, 2020Assignees: Dolby Laboratories Licensing Corporation, Dolby International ABInventors: Dirk Jeroen Breebaart, Antonio Mateos Sole, Heiko Purnhagen, Nicolas R. Publication number: 20200221249Abstract: Diffuse or spatially large audio objects may be identified for special processing. A decorrelation process may be performed on audio signals corresponding to the large audio objects to produce decorrelated large audio object audio signals. These decorrelated large audio object audio signals may be associated with object locations, which may be stationary or time-varying locations. For example, the decorrelated large audio object audio signals may be rendered to virtual or actual speaker locations. The output of such a rendering process may be input to a scene simplification process. The decorrelation, associating and/or scene simplification processes may be performed prior to a process of encoding the audio data.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 17, 2020Publication date: July 9, 2020Applicants: Dolby Laboratories Licensing Corporation, DOLBY INTERNATIONAL ABInventors: Dirk Jeroen BREEBAART, Lie LU, Nicolas R. Publication number: 20200184983Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer program products that provide streaming capabilities to audio input and output devices are disclosed. An audio processing device connects an upstream device to a downstream device. The upstream device is plugged into an input port of the audio processing device. The audio processing device intercepts a signal from the upstream device to the downstream device. The audio processing device converts the signal to digital data and streams the digital data to a server. The digital data can include metadata, e.g., an input gain. The audio processing device can adjust the input gain in response to instructions from the server. The audio processing device feeds a pass-through copy of the audio signal to an output port. A user can connect the downstream device in a usual signal chain into the output port of the audio processing device. The streaming does not affect the user's workflow.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 12, 2018Publication date: June 11, 2020Applicants: DOLBY LABORATORIES LICENSING CORPORATION, DOLBY INTERNATIONAL ABInventors: Giulio CENGARLE, Antonio MATEOS SOLE, Davide SCAINI, Suraj Suhas BARKALE

Patent number: 10652684Abstract: Multiple virtual source locations may be defined for a volume within which audio objects can move. A set-up process for rendering audio data may involve receiving reproduction speaker location data and pre-computing gain values for each of the virtual sources according to the reproduction speaker location data and each virtual source location. The gain values may be stored and used during “run time,” during which audio reproduction data are rendered for the speakers of the reproduction environment. During run time, for each audio object, contributions from virtual source locations within an area or volume defined by the audio object position data and the audio object size data may be computed. A set of gain values for each output channel of the reproduction environment may be computed based, at least in part, on the computed contributions. Each output channel may correspond to at least one reproduction speaker of the reproduction environment.Type: GrantFiled: February 12, 2018Date of Patent: May 12, 2020Assignees: Dolby Laboratories Licensing Corporation, Dolby International ABInventors: Antonio Mateos Sole, Nicolas R. Publication number: 20200145773Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer program products for rending an audio object having an apparent size are disclosed. An audio processing system receives audio panning data including a first grid mapping first virtual sound sources in a space and speaker positions to speaker gains. The first grid specifies first speaker gains of the first virtual sound sources in the space. The audio processing system determines a second grid of second virtual sound sources in the space, including mapping the first virtual sound sources into the second virtual sound sources of the second virtual sources. The audio processing system selects at least one of the first grid or second grid for rendering an audio object based on an apparent size of the audio object. The audio processing system renders the audio object based on the selected grid or grids.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 1, 2018Publication date: May 7, 2020Applicant: DOLBY INTERNATIONAL ABInventors: Daniel Arteaga, Giulio Cengarle, Antonio Mateos Sole

Patent number: 10631116Abstract: The positions of a plurality of speakers at a media consumption site are determined. Audio information in an object-based format is received. Gain adjustment value for a sound content portion in the object-based format may be determined based on the position of the sound content portion and the positions of the plurality of speakers. Audio information in a ring-based channel format is received. Gain adjustment value for each ring-based channel in a set of ring-based channels may be determined based on the ring to which the ring-based channel belongs and the positions of the speakers at a media consumption site.Type: GrantFiled: June 25, 2018Date of Patent: April 21, 2020Assignees: Dolby Laboratories Licensing Corporation, Dolby International ABInventors: Nicolas R. Patent number: 10492014Abstract: Audio objects that are present in input audio content in one or more frames are determined. Output clusters that are present in output audio content in the one or more frames are also determined. Here, the audio objects in the input audio content are converted to the output clusters in the output audio content. One or more spatial error metrics are computed based at least in part on positional metadata of the audio objects and positional metadata of the output clusters.Type: GrantFiled: January 5, 2015Date of Patent: November 26, 2019Assignees: Dolby Laboratories Licensing Corporation, Dolby International ABInventors: Dirk Jeroen Breebaart, Lianwu Chen, Lie Lu, Antonio Mateos Sole, Nicolas R. Publication number: 20190253801Abstract: Embodiments are described for a method for localizing a set of speakers (106) and microphones (108), having only the times of arrival between each of the speakers and microphones. An autodiscovery process (107) uses an external input to set: a global translation (3 continuous parameters), a global rotation (3 continuous parameters), and discrete symmetries, i.e., an exchange of any axis pairs and/or reversal of any axis. Different time of arrival acquisition techniques may be used, such as ultrasonic sweeps or generic multitrack audio content. The autodiscovery algorithm is based in minimizing a certain cost function, and the process allows for latencies in the recordings, possibly linked to the latencies in the emission.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 28, 2017Publication date: August 15, 2019Applicants: Dolby Laboratories Licensing Corporation, DOLBY INTERNATIONAL ABInventors: Daniel ARTEAGA, Giulio CENGARLE, David Matthew FISCHER, Antonio MATEOS SOLE, Davide SCAINI, Alan J. Publication number: 20190215540Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer program products for network-based processing and distribution of multimedia content of a live performance are disclosed. In some implementations, recording devices can be configured to record a multimedia event (e.g., a musical performance). The recording devices can provide the recordings to a server while the event is ongoing. The server automatically synchronizes, mixes and masters the recordings.
