Publication number: 20220280807Abstract: Devices and methods for treating central nervous system disorders by administering light to a user are disclosed. In some embodiments, the devices are positioned away from the user, and in other embodiments, the devices are attached to the user. In some embodiments, the light is applied through the users skin, and in other embodiments, through an implanted or percutaneous device. Representative central nervous system disorders include cognitive, motor, and behavioral disorders. Where these disorders include an inflammatory component, light is administered at wavelengths which decrease inflammation in the brain. Where these disorders are caused by poor vascularization, light is administered at wavelengths which improve vascularization in the brain. The methods also include repairing damage to the blood brain barrier, and can be used to more effectively administer drugs, such as anticancer drugs, to the brain.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 5, 2020Publication date: September 8, 2022Inventors: Antony van de Ven, Nathan Stasko, F. Patent number: 11251164Abstract: Light emitting diodes are disclosed that utilize multiple conversion materials in the conversion process in order to achieve the desired emission color point. Different embodiments of the present invention can comprise different phosphor types in separate layers on, above or around one or a plurality of LED chips to achieve the desired light conversion. The LEDs can then emit a desired combination of light from the LED chips and conversion material. In some embodiments, conversion materials can be applied as layers of different phosphor types in order of longest emission wavelength phosphor first, followed by shorter emission phosphors in sequence as opposed to applying in a homogeneously mixed phosphor converter. The conversion material layers can be applied as a blanket over the LED chips and the area surrounding the chip, such as the surface of a submount holding the LED chips.Type: GrantFiled: August 6, 2014Date of Patent: February 15, 2022Assignee: CreeLED, Inc.Inventors: Fan Zhang, James Ibbetson, Bernd Keller, Thodore Lowes, Antony Van De Ven, Deborah Kircher, Tao Feng Gilbert, Peter Andrews

Patent number: 10900653Abstract: Solid state light engines are disclosed that emit a bright, non-symmetrical emission pattern, with a relatively high luminous flux and from a relatively small area. The light engines can be used in many different types and sizes of light sources, with some embodiments providing a light quantity, quality and distribution similar to conventional J-type Halogen light sources. The light engines are arranged with integral power supplies and heat management features that allow for the engines to provide high emission intensities while generating significantly less heat at the light source. This can result in significantly higher efficiency and greater life space. In some embodiments, the light can perform similarly to a halogen J-type Lamp 80 mm light tube, while generating similar or greater amounts of light. The light engines according to the present invention provide the capability to be used in low profile light fixtures.Type: GrantFiled: November 1, 2013Date of Patent: January 26, 2021Assignee: Cree Hong Kong LimitedInventors: Antony Van De Ven, Wai Kwan Chan, Chin Wah Ho

Patent number: 9062830Abstract: Solid state lamps and bulbs comprising different combinations and arrangements of a light source, one or more wavelength conversion materials, regions or layers which are positioned separately or remotely with respect to the light source, and a separate diffuser. These are arranged on a heat sink in a manner that allows for the fabrication of lamps and bulbs that are efficient, reliable and cost effective and can provide an essentially omnidirectional emission pattern, even with a light source comprised of a co-planar arrangement of LEDs. Additionally, this arrangement allows aesthetic masking or concealment of the appearance of the conversion regions or layers when the lamp is not illuminated. Various embodiments of the invention may be used to address many of the difficulties associated with utilizing efficient solid state light sources such as LEDs in the fabrication of lamps or bulbs suitable for direct replacement of traditional incandescent bulbs.Type: GrantFiled: February 16, 2011Date of Patent: June 23, 2015Assignee: Cree, Inc.Inventors: Long Larry Le, Paul Pickard, James Michael Lay, Tao Tong, Ronan Letoquin, Bernd Keller, Eric Tarsa, Mark Youmans, Theodore Lowes, Nicholas W.
