  • Publication number: 20210124057
Abstract: Techniques for enhanced Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) position determination can include capturing an image, from a camera, of obstructions near a mobile device. Orientation information regarding the camera can is used to determine where, in the image, the horizon is situated, and which portions of the sky are blocked by the obstructions from the perspective of the mobile device. Information regarding the location of satellites in the sky is obtained, based on an estimated position of the mobile device. Obstructed satellites can then be identified by comparing the location of the satellites with the obstructed portions of the sky. In a GNSS position determination, information received from the obstructed satellites can then be disregarded or de-weighted accordingly. In some embodiments, the information regarding the blocked portions of the sky can be sent to a server and/or shared with other nearby mobile devices.

  • Publication number: 20210063546
Abstract: Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to vehicle sensors. In some aspects, a device associated with a vehicle may obtain, from an external source, calibration data including a first set of measurements related to a position of one or more objects in a reference frame associated with the external source. The device may identify a second set of measurements related to the position of the one or more objects within a field of view of one or more onboard sensors, and update a calibration table based at least in part on a comparison of one or more of the first set of measurements and one or more of the second set of measurements that are most time-aligned. Accordingly, the device may convert sensor-derived location information from a source reference frame to a reference frame associated with the vehicle using the updated calibration table. Numerous other aspects are provided.

  • Patent number: 10534088
Abstract: A method and system for assisting mobile stations to locate a satellite use an efficient messaging format. A server computes a correction between coarse orbit data of a satellite and precise orbit data of the satellite. A coordinate system is chosen such that variation of the correction is substantially smooth over time. The server further approximates the correction with mathematical functions to reduce the number of bits necessary for transmission to a mobile station. The mobile station, upon receiving the coefficients, evaluates the mathematical functions using the coefficients and a time of applicability (e.g., the current time), converts the evaluated result to a standard coordinate system, and applies the conversion result to the coarse orbit data to obtain the precise orbit data.

  • Publication number: 20180310133
Abstract: Disclosed embodiments facilitate efficient positioning of stations (STAs) one wireless networks. A method on an Access Point may determine, at a first time, availability of the Access Point (AP) for positioning; and transmit, based at least in part, on the determination, information indicative of the AP's availability for positioning. The transmitted information may comprise one or more of: STA-AP location determination availability, STA-AP location determination capability, whether AP-AP positioning is being performed; and/or the next scheduled AP-AP ranging session. In some embodiments, a STA may initiate location determination to determine a location of the STA based, at least in part, on indications of availability for positioning for one or more Access Points (APs) communicatively coupled to the STA. Each indication of availability may correspond to a distinct AP of the one or more APs, and the location determination may comprise either: STA-AP location determination, or passive location determination.
