Publication number: 20040249996Abstract: The invention applies the economies of scale to data processing and provides automated methods of collecting, categorizing, indexing, storing and retrieving large amounts of data from a wide variety of sources. The invention discloses the use of location and industry templates to categorize documents and other data objects. Location and industry data for each document is translated into a set of assignment numerals that are used to create a header number. Each document or data object is indexed and stored in a data warehouse in accordance with the header number. Subsequently, documents and data objects are retrieved from the data warehouse using the index of header numbers and the location and industry templates.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 31, 2003Publication date: December 9, 2004Inventors: Arthur O. Publication number: 20010030521Abstract: A remotely controlled cross-connection switching matrix, particularly suited for telephone systems, has a jumper pin picker and placement mechanism selectively movable along each of three axes under the control of a single drive motor translating a single drive cable over a series of pulleys. Movement along the selected axis is effected by braking movement along the other two axes. The system provides a “soft dial tone” to prospective telephone subscribers' premises having cable pairs permanently connected to the matrix. The cable pair for the calling prospective subscriber is automatically identified at the matrix in response to an off-hook status for that prospective subscriber, and the cable pair identification data is automatically transmitted to the telephone business office.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 15, 2001Publication date: October 18, 2001Inventors: Douglas G. Hard, Bryan K. Kennedy, Arthur O. Miller

Patent number: 5065424Abstract: A remote control telephone service apparatus, for connection into a telephone line between a customer's telephone and a telephone switching central office main distribution frame. One or two selected code numbers are manually input into the apparatus. Later, if these correct code numbers are dialed into the apparatus, an output signal is provided to control changes in interconnect circuitry and to provide pre-recorded voice messages relative to the condition and status of the circuit. If the dialed number does not match the code number, the apparatus will not operate, but will emit a warning message or an alarm. The apparatus may also be used to disconnect a telephone from the main distribution line as long as the receiver is left in an "off-hook" condition. The apparatus will provide pre-recorded information to the customer concerning the status of his service. When the receiver is replaced, the apparatus automatically restores the telephone to full service.Type: GrantFiled: March 21, 1989Date of Patent: November 12, 1991Inventor: Arthur O. Miller

Patent number: 4685127Abstract: A method of providing equal access to a number of long distance carriers in local telephone company office containing No. 5 crossbar switching machines. Calls are intercepted between the line link frame and the originating registers. If the call is a long distance call, a serial number which resembles a conventional phone call is inserted in the calls place. The called number is stored and the appropriate carrier is determined by locating the calling party's pre-selected carrier choice in telephone company records. When the call identified by the serial number exits the switch it is automatically routed to the correct long distance carrier.Type: GrantFiled: October 1, 1985Date of Patent: August 4, 1987Assignee: Southwestern Bell TelephoneInventors: Arthur O. Miller, Hollis Coleman, Roger Atkinson, Boyd Dorsey

Patent number: 4170782Abstract: A television receiver programming and selection monitoring system is provided to permit a television viewer to preselect a television viewing schedule of desired television channels to be viewed during subsequent time periods. The system also permits the monitoring by a remote data processing center of the actual television programs viewed by the television viewer. The programming portion of the system includes first and second switches for preselecting a desired time period and for preselecting one of a plurality of television channels to be viewed during the preselected time period. A recording device is provided and is interconnected to the first and second switches. The system further includes a tone generator for producing a plurality of unique tones.Type: GrantFiled: October 28, 1977Date of Patent: October 9, 1979Inventor: Arthur O. Miller

Patent number: 4047155Abstract: Changes in the electrical state of devices connected to a plurality of wiring terminals are detected and recorded by a data recording system programmed to evaluate the terminals singularly or in groups of various combinations. A central controller is programmed to generate terminal address data, either singularly or in groups of various combinations, and these terminal addresses are applied to a cable driver that partially decodes the address data into one of several selected terminal groups. The partially decoded terminal address data is applied to decoder/selectors for each of several major terminal groups wherein further decoding takes place. Only one of the detector/selectors is activated by the partially decoded address data to further decode the address to identify a particular terminal or group of terminals. The decoded data provides a control signal that actuates terminal gates for the selected terminals to couple a voltage at the terminals to a detector/control.Type: GrantFiled: November 16, 1976Date of Patent: September 6, 1977Inventor: Arthur O. Patent number: 3973090Abstract: A telephone test and assignment bureau is provided with a telephone instrument interconnected with an automatic wire pair identification field unit. A telephone number to be verified is dialed on the instrument and a start button is illuminated when the connection is completed by the switching equipment. Pressing this button initiates the verification procedure, and the wire pair identification field unit sends an interrogate signal over the telephone line to the central office. A wire pair identification control unit is connected via shoes at the main distributing frame to the cable having the wire pair assigned to the telephone number dialed. When the interrogate signal is received by the wire pair identification control unit it sends an identifying code back over the same telephone line to identify which wire pair on the main distribution frame was selected by the switching equipment in response to the telephone number dialed.Type: GrantFiled: April 3, 1975Date of Patent: August 3, 1976Assignee: Hewlett-Packard CompanyInventor: Arthur O.
