  • Publication number: 20150211732
Abstract: A steam generator includes a furnace configured and adapted to generate steam from heat transfer from furnace exit gases from the combustion of municipal solid waste fuel, where tempering air is used for at least two purposes. First, to prevent or minimize corrosion of heat transfer surfaces, specifically a plurality of platens and at least one superheater disposed within an upper portion of the furnace or backpass and second to push and exert a force on the hot flue gas to change the flow pattern and improve superheater metal temperatures.

  • Patent number: 5558045
Abstract: A refractory tile adapted for protecting boiler tubes from the corrosive and erosive effects of a hot gas stream comprises an elongated ceramic body covering only that side of a boiler tube upon which the hot gas impinges. The tile is hung on the tube with a threaded stud anchored on the tube and a nut threaded on the stud, urging the tile against the tube.

  • Patent number: 5528992
Abstract: A guide system for a reciprocating grate system having a grate surface, alternating rows of stationary and movable grate blocks, a movable carriage, a fixed undergrate structure, and a driving force device. The guide system includes guide units which guide the movable carriage and the movable rows of grate blocks with respect to the fixed undergrate structure and the stationary rows of grate blocks during reciprocating stroke cycles of the driving force device. Each guide unit includes a fixed guide member and a movable guide member. The fixed guide member is attached to the fixed undergrate structure and has an upper non-linear contour with wear plates, each having a wear surface. Each movable guide member is attached to the movable carriage and has a lower non-linear contour with wear plates, each having a wear surface. When the movable carriage is in an installed position, the wear surfaces are in slidable contact with each other.

  • Patent number: 5474235
Abstract: The present invention relates to a replaceable nozzle insert adapted to be removably received and secured within the atomization port of a spray nozzle. The spray nozzle is then, in turn, used to atomize a two fluid mixture, typically slurry and gas. The nozzle insert is configured to provide for the use of highly abrasion-resistant materials in the construction of the insert, thereby significantly increasing the average life of the nozzle insert. The improved features of the nozzle insert include a two-piece design having an insert sleeve and an insert retaining cap. The insert sleeve portion of the nozzle insert has an interior fluid-conveying and gas flow passages therein and can be received into the atomization and inner body ports of the spray nozzle. The insert retaining cap cooperates with both the insert sleeve and the spray nozzle to secure the insert sleeve in place in the spray nozzle.

  • Patent number: 5423294
Abstract: A protective wall structure for protecting boiler tubing in facilities using refuse as a fuel source to produce steam for electrical power generation. The protective wall structure includes an array of shielding tiles, heat transfer bonding material, and elongated compressible material. The shielding tiles include a front surface facing the interior combustion zone of the facility, a rear surface facing the boiler tubes, and a plurality of sidewall surfaces. The heat transfer bonding material is positioned between the boiler tubes and the rear surfaces of the shielding tiles to permit heat transfer and create a bond between the boiler tubes and the shielding tiles. The elongated compressible material is positioned between the sidewall perimeter surfaces of adjacent shielding tiles to provide an expansion joint. This permits relative expansion between adjacent shielding tiles without cracking upon an increase in temperature in the interior combustion zone.

  • Patent number: 5394806
Abstract: A new carriage system for a ram feeder has been designed and is provided. As in the prior art, the carriage system has a drive cart to which is attached a driving force member at one end thereof and a ram member on the other and opposing end thereof. The drive cart is supported by and travels upon a carriage table. The carriage system of the present invention replaces the prior art wheel and flat rail arrangement under the drive cart. The wheels together with the associated problems have been eliminated. In the present invention, the carriage system has a guide member attached to the carriage table and a travel member attached to the underside of the drive cart. The guide member is longitudinally oriented on the carriage table in the direction of drive cart travel and has at least one upper wear portion. The guide member guides the drive cart and the attached ram member during a reciprocating stoke cycle of the driving force member. The travel member has at least one lower wear portion.
