    Abstract: A dipping element for immunoassay or quantitative analysis of an immunoreactive analyte is disclosed having a first matrix having a carrier therein containing an immobilized antibody capable of an immunochemical reaction with a sample antigen. The immobilized antibody is not released into the aqueous liquid sample upon contact. The element further comprises a second matrix which contains labelled antigen which does dissolve in the aqueous liquid sample upon contact. On dipping, the marker-labelled antigen reacts with the immobilized antibody in competition with the antigen-antibody reaction between the analyte antigen and the immobilized antibody. if the analyte is an antibody, then the second matrix contains a marker labelled antibody and the first matrix contains an immobilized antigen. Methods for the quantitative analysis of an analyte antigen or antibody are also disclosed.

    Abstract: A dry-type multilayer analytical element containing a color reagent composition comprising an oxidase specifically reaction with an analyte or derived therefrom to produce hydrogen peroxide, hydrogen peroxide-decomposing enzyme, an alkali metal salt of ferrocyanide and a chromogen which is separated from the hydrogen peroxide-decomposing enzyme, the chromogen being incorporated in a layer nearer to the transparent support of the analytical element than the layer containing the hydrogen peroxide-decomposing enzyme. The analytical element exhibits excellent coloration, color stability, and accuracy and the results are minimally influenced by the presence of hemoglobin in the sample.

    Abstract: A method for quantitative determination of bilirubin is disclosed. The method comprises bringing a bilirubin-containing aqueous liquid sample into contact with a hydrophobic bilirubin extracting composition containing a hydrophobic amine capable of extracting bilirubin. The amine extracts the bilirubin in said aqueous liquid sample. Photometry is then used to determine the concentration of bilirubin extracted with the bilirubin extracting composition. A device for use in this method is also disclosed. The device has a layer containing a hydrophobic bilirubin extracting composition containing a hydrophobic amine capable of extracting bilirubin.

    Abstract: A method for quantitative determination of bilirubin is disclosed. The method comprises bringing a bilirubin-containing aqueous liquid sample into contact with a hydrophobic bilirubin extracting composition containing a hydrophobic amine capable of extracting bilirubin. The amine extracts the bilirubin in said aqueous liquid sample. Photometry is then used to determine the concentration of bilirubin extracted with the bilirubin extracting composition. A device for use in this method is also disclosed. The device has a layer containing a hydrophobic bilirubin extracting composition containing a hydrophobic amine capable of extracting bilirubin.

    Abstract: A plurality of test slides carrying thereon dry reagents for chemical analysis of fluid samples or a dry porous analysis layer are sandwiched and sealed between a continuous base sheet and a continuous cover sheet at equal intervals. A test slide strip having alternately slide holding portions and slide free portions along its length is thus produced. The spaces between the adjacent test slides are longer than the test slides, whereby the test slide strip can be folded in an accordion shape so that the slide holding portions and slide free portions are alternately superposed. The folded test slide strip is nested in a box like casing having a slot in one side wall thereof adjacent the bottom. The test slides are dispensed from the casing through the slot one by one in order by pulling the leading edge of the test slide strip.
