  • Publication number: 20110304092
Abstract: An automatic document feeder includes a separating and feeding unit which has a separating member and a paper feeding member coming into contact with the separating member at a predetermined separating pressure, and separates and feeds an original sheet by sheet from a bundle of originals placed on an original placing table; a conveying unit which conveys the original separated by the separating and feeding unit toward a scanning position; a separating pressure switching unit which applies and releases the separating pressure and which is controlled by a control unit to release the separating pressure after a leading edge of a preceding sheet of the original has passed through the separating and feeding unit and to apply the separating pressure before a sheet of original separated and fed next to the preceding sheet of original is fed from the bundle of original to the separating and feeding unit.

  • Patent number: 8038140
Abstract: A document feeding device includes a carrying unit capable of carrying documents, a drawing device drawing and supplying the documents, a drawing device drive source driving the drawing device, a separation unit including a separation device to separate the documents one by one, a separation device drive source driving the separation device, a conveying device conveying the documents, a reading unit including a reading device to read information of the documents, a discharge device discharging the documents, a first document detector provided between a document set position and the separation unit to detect the documents, and a second document detector provided downstream of the separation unit and near a separation position to detect the documents. The first and second document detectors detect the trailing end of each of the documents to control the operation of the drawing device on the basis of the result of the detection.

  • Publication number: 20100027081
Abstract: In an image reader, a reading member fixedly mounted in the image reader reads an image on a sheet conveyed into the image reader. A guide is disposed opposite the reading member to support the sheet with respect to the reading member. A guide moving member moves the guide with respect to the reading member in a main scanning direction in which the reading member reads the image on the sheet. A guide rotating member rotates the guide in a sub-scanning direction perpendicular to the main scanning direction. A controller controls the reading member to scan different positions on the guide moved by the guide moving member and rotated by the guide rotating member to generate shading data.

  • Patent number: 6882438
Abstract: A data terminal coupled to a local area network and a public switched telephone network includes first and second communications devices and a controller. The first and second communications devices transmit and receive communications data through the local area network and communications information through the public switched telephone network, respectively. The controller instructs the first communications device to perform a first data transfer operation for transferring communications data to a destination data terminal connected to the local area network when the second communications device receives destination identification information identifying the destination data terminal during a time when the second communications device performs a receiving operation for receiving the communications information from a communications machine connected to the public switched telephone network.

  • Patent number: 6137597
Abstract: A method of controlling a network facsimile apparatus for exchanging data over a local area network and a publicly switched network uses an address conversion table for storing sub-addresses, corresponding mail addresses, and corresponding passwords in a way that relate each of the sub-addresses to a corresponding password and mail address for transmitting image information received over the publicly switched network via the local area network to a terminal at a mail address corresponding to a sub-address received from a transmitting terminal. If the apparatus receives a sub-address and corresponding password information when the image information is received, the apparatus sends an electronic mail message notifying of receipt of the image information and requesting password information from the terminal at the mail address in the address conversion table corresponding to the received sub-address.
