  • Patent number: 6603863
Abstract: A headphone 10 has a pair of sound generating units 16 designed to be placed adjacent to ears of a user and a vibration generating unit 14 designed to be placed on a back neck of the user. In response to an audio signal, the sound generating units 16 generate acoustic sound and then provide it to the ears. Simultaneously with this, in response to the audio signal, the vibration generating unit generates vibrations to be provided to the back neck of the user. Then, the user will perceive the acoustic sound through ears and the vibrations through the back neck simultaneously. This provides the user with a dynamic sound effect.

  • Patent number: 5867582
Abstract: A headphone has an electroacoustic transducing device for converting an electrical signal to an acoustic signal, a housing for housing the electroacoustic transducing device, a flexible support member of which one end is fixed to the housing, and a vibration member disposed at the other end of the flexible support member. The vibration member generates primary vibrations by an electrical signal having a specific correlation to the electrical signal supplied to the electroacoustic transducing device. The resulting primary vibrations are transmitted through the flexible support member to the housing which then generates secondary vibrations. Unlike the impact vibrations of the primary vibrations, the secondary vibrations felt through the entire housing provide pleasant vibrations similar to air vibrations of the low bass sounds simultaneously to the corresponding low range sounds reaching the eardrum.

  • Patent number: 5544253
Abstract: In an earphone assembly, a front cap portion of an outer casing (5) having an electroacoustic transducing device (12) therein is made to have a substantially circular configuration being greater in diameter than other portions to be able to be fit in the cavity of the auricle. The earphone assembly has a cord supporting member (4) for a connection cord (3) of the electroacoustic transducing device (12) and a movable member (10) pivotable with respect to the outer casing (5). A protruded portion (2a) of the outer casing protrudes peripherally from a peripheral portion of the front cap member thereof. The protruded portion (11) of the movable member (10) cooperates with the peripheral portion of the front cap member of the outer casing (5) to allow the earphone to be fit in the cavity of the auricle (9).

  • Patent number: 5412733
Abstract: The present invention relates to an acoustic reproducing apparatus which is suitable particularly for listening to reproduced sound with noise through an open-air-type head phone. A sound leakage frequency band, when a head phone is loaded is measured in advance, and operation of a filter attenuating that sound leakage frequency band is changed-over. Thereby the sound leakage from the head phone to the outside in the loaded state is controlled. Also, a noise frequency characteristic is measured in advance, the low frequency band is intensified so as to correspond to that characteristic, and operation of the filter for attenuating the high frequency band containing the above-mentioned sound leakage frequency band is controlled to be changed-over.

  • Patent number: 4939601
Abstract: A portable playback apparatus includes a manually operated single pushbutton and a control circuit connected to the pushbutton for selectively determining one of a plurality of operating modes of the apparatus in accordance with successive depressions of the pushbutton, or duration of each depression, or in accordance with the number of depressions. The single pushbutton may be attached to an earpiece cord or located on one end face of a housing of the apparatus which is convenient to use.
