Patent number: 11673526Abstract: An airbag and a method for manufacturing the airbag. The airbag is manufactured by weaving yarns to form a one-piece woven (OPW) airbag having inflatable portions and non-inflatable portions. The non-inflatable portions are woven with varying weave patterns so as to form recesses in the surface of the airbag in the form of an indicia.Type: GrantFiled: January 24, 2022Date of Patent: June 13, 2023Assignee: ZF PASSIVE SAFETY SYSTEMS US INC.Inventors: Dylan Moran, Bruce Hill, Avadhoot Paranjpe

Patent number: 11628796Abstract: A deployment ramp for helping to direct a curtain airbag to deploy inboard of a trim piece on a side structure of a vehicle includes a deployment flap for directing the curtain airbag to deploy inboard of the trim piece and a mounting portion configured to receive a fastener for connecting the deployment ramp and the curtain airbag to the vehicle. The mounting portion includes a pair of mounting tabs. Each mounting tab is configured to be installed in a corresponding sleeve in the curtain airbag to connect the deployment ramp to the curtain airbag. The mounting portion is configured so that installing both mounting tabs in their corresponding sleeves requires the application of external manipulating forces to the mounting portion in order to bend and/or deflect in order to overcome an interference between the mounting portion and the curtain airbag.Type: GrantFiled: August 23, 2021Date of Patent: April 18, 2023Assignee: ZF PASSIVE SAFETY SYSTEMS US INC.Inventors: Dylan Moran, Avadhoot Paranjpe

Patent number: 11590919Abstract: An airbag module for helping to protect an occupant of a vehicle includes a curtain airbag and a mounting bracket. The curtain airbag includes a mounting tab configured to receive a fastener for connecting the curtain airbag to the vehicle. The mounting bracket is configured to cooperate with the mounting tab to facilitate the connection of the curtain airbag to the vehicle via the fastener. The mounting bracket includes a generally planar body portion and a fastening structure that extends transversely from the body portion. The mounting tab includes overlying layers of material that help define a pocket configured to receive the mounting bracket. The mounting tab includes a first fastener opening configured to receive the fastening structure so that the fastening structure extends through the first fastener opening with the body portion positioned in the pocket. The fastening structure is configured for installation in the vehicle structure to initially support the airbag module in the vehicle.Type: GrantFiled: August 23, 2021Date of Patent: February 28, 2023Assignee: ZF PASSIVE SAFETY SYSTEMS US INC.Inventors: Richard Patton, Dylan Moran, Avadhoot Paranjpe

Publication number: 20210146871Abstract: A mounting bracket for being installed in a mounting tab of a curtain airbag to facilitate connecting the curtain airbag to a vehicle with a fastener includes a plate with a bracket aperture extending therethrough. At least one retainer tab extends radially inward into the bracket aperture from a periphery of the bracket aperture. A free end portion of the at least one retainer tab defines a retainer aperture sized to form an interference fit with the fastener. The at least one retainer tab and the retainer aperture are configured to retain a fastener extending through the mounting tab.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 15, 2019Publication date: May 20, 2021Inventors: Richard Patton, Avadhoot Paranjpe, Dylan Moran

Patent number: 9650010Abstract: An airbag assembly may include an inflatable curtain airbag with a stowed configuration and a deployed configuration. The inflatable curtain may have a first chamber and a second chamber that inflates forward of the first chamber. The second chamber may have a height above the height of the first chamber so that a bottom of the second chamber is pressed downward adjacent to a door of the vehicle. A plurality of airbag assembly components may be integrally formed with a non-inflating peripheral region surrounding the first and second chambers. Such components may include a front or rear tether cut from the front or rear of the non-inflating peripheral region, a top tether cut from the top of the non-inflating peripheral region to control deployment of the second chamber, and a fabric shield cut from the top to at least partially wrap around the stowed inflatable curtain airbag.Type: GrantFiled: August 6, 2015Date of Patent: May 16, 2017Assignee: Autoliv ASP, Inc.Inventors: Xiaohong Wang, Bryan Walston, Arthur Yakumo, Avadhoot Paranjpe, Paul Hicken

Patent number: 8636301Abstract: An airbag assembly may include an inflatable curtain airbag with a stowed configuration and a deployed configuration. The inflatable curtain may have a first protection zone and a second protection zone that inflates forward of the first protection zone to provide enhanced protection. The second protection zone may be folded against the first protection zone so that, during deployment, the second protection zone pivots to unfold relative to the first protection zone. The airbag assembly may have a restraint member that limits the ability of the second protection zone to unfold to a configuration parallel to the first protection zone, thereby keeping the second protection zone at an optimal location to protect the vehicle occupant from rollover and/or small overlap or oblique collisions. The restraint member may be a tether with ends secured proximate the top of the second protection zone and the top of the first protection zone.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 2013Date of Patent: January 28, 2014Assignee: Autoliv ASP, Inc.Inventors: Xiaohong Wang, Takayuki Makioka, Avadhoot Paranjpe
