    Abstract: A deployment ramp for helping to direct a curtain airbag to deploy inboard of a trim piece on a side structure of a vehicle includes a deployment flap for directing the curtain airbag to deploy inboard of the trim piece and a mounting portion configured to receive a fastener for connecting the deployment ramp and the curtain airbag to the vehicle. The mounting portion includes a pair of mounting tabs. Each mounting tab is configured to be installed in a corresponding sleeve in the curtain airbag to connect the deployment ramp to the curtain airbag. The mounting portion is configured so that installing both mounting tabs in their corresponding sleeves requires the application of external manipulating forces to the mounting portion in order to bend and/or deflect in order to overcome an interference between the mounting portion and the curtain airbag.

The mounting bracket includes a generally planar body portion and a fastening structure that extends transversely from the body portion. The mounting tab includes overlying layers of material that help define a pocket configured to receive the mounting bracket. The mounting tab includes a first fastener opening configured to receive the fastening structure so that the fastening structure extends through the first fastener opening with the body portion positioned in the pocket. The fastening structure is configured for installation in the vehicle structure to initially support the airbag module in the vehicle.

A free end portion of the at least one retainer tab defines a retainer aperture sized to form an interference fit with the fastener. The at least one retainer tab and the retainer aperture are configured to retain a fastener extending through the mounting tab.

    Abstract: An airbag assembly may include an inflatable curtain airbag with a stowed configuration and a deployed configuration. The inflatable curtain may have a first protection zone and a second protection zone that inflates forward of the first protection zone to provide enhanced protection. The second protection zone may be folded against the first protection zone so that, during deployment, the second protection zone pivots to unfold relative to the first protection zone. The airbag assembly may have a restraint member that limits the ability of the second protection zone to unfold to a configuration parallel to the first protection zone, thereby keeping the second protection zone at an optimal location to protect the vehicle occupant from rollover and/or small overlap or oblique collisions. The restraint member may be a tether with ends secured proximate the top of the second protection zone and the top of the first protection zone.
