  • Patent number: 9972186
Abstract: Operation of a vehicle generally requires that the operator have sufficient range of motion in the upper limbs to 1) steer the vehicle and/or 2) to operate the vehicle's ancillary controls. The presently disclosed technology provides for limiting upper limb movement by requiring a user's upper limbs to be oriented in a way as to limit or prevent the user from being able to operate the vehicle. Cuffs may be secured to a variety of locations on a user's upper limbs. In a predetermined upper limb position, the cuffs are oriented in a specific location and orientation on the user's upper limbs and in a specific proximity and orientation with respect to one another. The user is compliant by maintaining the cuffs in the predetermined upper limb position. To ensure compliance, the cuffs are equipped with a compliance monitor that monitors the cuffs contact, proximity, and/or orientation with one another.

  • Patent number: 9685264
Abstract: A stator core is formed from a continuous strip of wound sheet stock material, in which the sheet stock material is converted from the sheet stock to a formed material including winding slot cutouts. This strip of formed material is then wound into the stator core, with the winding slot cutouts in the formed material maintained at a substantially constant width throughout most of the radial extent of the resulting winding slots in the finished article. However, one or more of the radially innermost and radially outermost layers may define winding slot cutouts that are wider than the other winding slot cutouts. Where several radial layers are altered in this way, the cutout widths are progressively expanded such that the resulting winding slot has terminal ends with edges that are effectively “radiused” or rounded, thereby protecting windings near the edge of such slots.

  • Patent number: 9671398
Abstract: The present invention relates to systems and methods for the rapid in situ determination of the existence of a hook effect and expansion of the dynamic range of a point of care immunoassay. For example, a system for identifying a hook effect and expanding the dynamic range of an immunoassay is provided that may include a primary sensor having first immobilized antibodies that may be configured to generate a first signal based on a presence or absence of a target analyte in a sample. The system may further include an attenuated sensor having second immobilized antibodies at a reduced concentration relative to a concentration of the first immobilized antibodies on the primary sensor and that may be configured to generate a second signal based on the presence or absence of the target analyte in the sample.

  • Patent number: 9479034
Abstract: An apparatus and method for the production of relatively large diameter annular components, such as stator cores for electric motors, without excessive waste of material. In one embodiment, a first progressive die assembly forms a plurality of identical pole pieces each made of a plurality of individual stacked and interlocked laminations. The pole pieces, having protruding end portions, are loaded into a rotary carousel. A second progressive die assembly forms a continuous strip including a plurality of body segments connected via hinge portions disposed adjacent recesses between the body segments that are dimensioned to receive the protruding ends of the pole pieces.

  • Publication number: 20160230007
Abstract: Oral treatment devices formed from wax-based compositions that are thermally stable when formed into a three-dimensional shape to a temperature of at least 45° C. and plastically deformable at room temperature (25° C.). The wax-based compositions include a wax fraction homogeneously blended with a polymer fraction. The wax fraction includes at least one wax. The polymer fraction includes at least one polymer selected such that, when the wax and polymer are homogeneously blended together, they yield a wax-based composition having the desired properties of thermal stability and plastic deformability. Oral treatment devices are dimensionally stable to a temperature of at least 40° C. without external support and can be plastically deformed in a user's mouth to become at least partially customized to the size and shape of user's unique dentition and/or an appliance in a user's mouth.

  • Patent number: 9314813
Abstract: A precision dispensing system and method of use is disclosed. The system includes a hand-holdable dispensing gun and a flexible pouch for dispensing metered amounts of a flowable material. The pouch is formed of a pair of panels of a flexible sheet material that are sealed together to form a pair of nozzles in communication with the flowable material in the pouch. The panels are cut along lines to form finger grip portions enabling one to tear open the nozzles, while leaving the portion of the pouch that is torn still attached to the pouch. The dispensing gun includes a pair of hinged sections defining an interior chamber. A piston is located at one end of the chamber and an end wall is located at the other end thereof. The end wall has passageway in it and is formed by the hinged sections when they are closed. The pouch is arranged to be disposed within the chamber with its nozzles extending out of the passageway.
