Patent number: 8844977Abstract: A suction connection, including a first flange that includes a centrally located through hole and is arranged to be connected to an outlet of a suction pipe and a second flange that includes a centrally located through hole and that is arranged to be connected to an inlet of a dry installed centrifugal pump. The suction connection includes a first pipe socket, which is displacable in the axial direction between an operative position in which said first pipe socket disengageably connects the first flange and the second flange and thereby puts the through hole of the first flange in fluid communication with the through hole of the second flange, and a service position in which the first pipe socket is located at a distance from the second flange and thereby admit access to the through hole of the second flange.Type: GrantFiled: June 8, 2011Date of Patent: September 30, 2014Assignee: Xylem IP Holdings LLC.Inventor: Bengt Södergård

Patent number: 8366384Abstract: The invention refers to a pump assembly, and more specifically to a chopping pump assembly comprising a cutting wheel mounted on a drive shaft in coaxial and co-rotational relation with a pump wheel, and a cutting plate stationary mountable in a pump housing between the cutting wheel and the pump wheel, the cutting plate having perforations forming passages there through for a liquid to be transported by the pump wheel in rotation, the cutting wheel and cutting plate in co-operation providing a shearing interface effective for cutting solid matter which may be entrained in the liquid. An axial clearance between the cutting wheel and cutting plate is established at all times by eliminating an axial play in a threaded engagement between the cutting wheel and the drive shaft. The invention also refers to a method by which an operative shearing action is securable in the pump assembly.Type: GrantFiled: May 7, 2008Date of Patent: February 5, 2013Assignee: Xylem IP Holdings LLCInventor: Bengt Södergård

Patent number: 5824980Abstract: A closed, hollow body has a suspending and tethering, electrical cable joined thereto, the latter conducting electrical power to and from a microswitch confined within the body. A switch actuator is engaged and disengaged by a weight, within the body, the weight being pivotably supported therein, and having a center of gravity which is offset from a central, longitudinal axis of the sensor.Type: GrantFiled: June 26, 1996Date of Patent: October 20, 1998Assignee: ITT Flygt ABInventor: Bengt Sodergard

Patent number: 5658135Abstract: A waste water pump station is provided for two submersible pump units which are attached to connection units on the station wall or on a shelf of the wall. The two connection units are attached in a reversed manner with respect to one another making it possible to mount them very close to the wall.Type: GrantFiled: September 16, 1996Date of Patent: August 19, 1997Assignee: ITT Flygt ABInventor: Bengt Sodergard

Patent number: 5601111Abstract: A valve housing has a chamber formed therewithin, and an inlet and an outlet for accommodating fluid flow through the chamber along a given flow path. The housing further confines a free ball therein, and hydraulic-fluid filed compartments with flexible walls. Intermediate the inlet and outlet, the housing has a valve seat formed. Fluid pressure in the chamber causes one compartment to collapse and the flexible wall of the other to expand. The expanding wall, and capturing fluid flow, moves the ball to the seat to halt flow through the chamber, after an initial period of free flow. The method comprises providing the chambered housing, disposing the ball in the chamber, communicating the inlet with a pump outlet, and confining the flexible-walled compartments in the chamber.Type: GrantFiled: July 17, 1995Date of Patent: February 11, 1997Assignee: ITT Flygt ABInventor: Bengt Sodergard

Patent number: 5011370Abstract: The centrifugal pump having a closed type impeller with two cover discs and vanes therebetween. The inner parts of the vanes cooperate with a non-rotating insert part for cutting within the pump inlet. The lower cover disc together with the non-rotating insert part in the pump inlet creates a radial seal.Type: GrantFiled: February 5, 1990Date of Patent: April 30, 1991Assignee: ITT CorporationInventor: Bengt Sodergard

Patent number: 4640666Abstract: The invention concerns a centrifugal pump for pumping heavily polluted liquids. The impeller is provided with an inlet having cutting means cooperating with an inlet opening of the pump housing, which cutting means cut elongated bodies, such as rags before they get into the pump housing.Type: GrantFiled: July 3, 1985Date of Patent: February 3, 1987Assignee: International Standard Electric CorporationInventor: Bengt Sodergard

Patent number: 4503942Abstract: A device for guiding a submersible pump unit to and from its operation position includes an essentially vertical thin guide member the lower end of which gradually changes into a broader portion and the upper end of which is tilted to make possible an easily releasable connection to a guide formed on the pump unit.Type: GrantFiled: October 21, 1982Date of Patent: March 12, 1985Assignee: ITT Industries, Inc.Inventors: Bengt Anden, Bengt Ramstrom, Bengt Sodergard
