  • Patent number: 7917554
Abstract: A Mixed Media Reality (MMR) system and associated techniques are disclosed. The MMR system provides mechanisms for forming a mixed media document that includes media of at least two types (e.g., printed paper as a first medium and digital content and/or web link as a second medium). In one particular embodiment, the MMR system includes a method, system, and computer program product for transforming characters corresponding to a hotspot in a document. An electronic document to be printed is parsed for a mark indicating a beginning point for a hotspot, a transformation rule is a applied to a portion of the electronic document between the mark indicating the beginning point for the hotspot and a mark indicating an ending point for the hotspot, and the transformed electronic document is rendered.

The MMR system provides mechanisms for forming a mixed media document that includes media of at least two types (e.g., printed paper as a first medium and digital content and/or web link as a second medium). In one particular embodiment, the MMR system includes a method, system, and computer program product for shared document annotation. A shared annotation is received or retrieved for a source document displayed in a browser. A modified document comprising a hotspot corresponding to the shared annotation is displayed in the browser, and upon a printing command, coordinates are captured corresponding to a printed representation of the modified document and the hotspot, resulting in a rendered page layout comprising the printed representation including the hotspot.

  • Patent number: 7779355
Abstract: Techniques for creating a composite image are provided. The techniques include receiving an electronic representation of a paper document. Features in the electronic representation are then extracted and compared to recorded information to determine matching information. For example, the matching information may be presentations and/or pages in the recorded information. Information is then determined based on the matching information and the received electronic representation. The composite electronic representation is then created using the determined information.

  • Patent number: 7774705
Abstract: Techniques for an iterative design process of determining a visual representation for an input media object are provided. One or more visual representations are determined from the input media object based on a set of encoding parameters. An output media object is created from the visual representation(s) based on a set of decoding parameters. The visual representation(s) and/or the second media object may be displayed to a user. An indication indicating whether the visual representation(s) and/or the second media object are acceptable or unacceptable is received. If the visual representation(s) and/or the second media object are not acceptable, then at least one parameter in at least one of the set of encoding parameters and the set of decoding parameters may be changed. The process described above is repeated until the visual representation(s) and the second media object are determined to be acceptable.

  • Patent number: 7725825
Abstract: Techniques for creating an output media object based on a first visual representation and a second visual representation are provided. A first visual representation is received. The first visual representation is generated based on first information determined from an input media object. A second visual representation is also received. The second visual representation is generated based on second information determined from the input media object. An output media object is then created based on the first visual representation and a second visual representation. The output media object may then be outputted or played on a device.

  • Patent number: 7689712
Abstract: Techniques to improve a user's note-taking experience. While taking notes for a presentation, a user can request one or more portions of information recorded during the presentation to be inserted into the user's notes document. User interfaces are provided that enable a user to specify which portions of the recorded information are to be inserted into the user's notes document. User information requests that cannot be immediately processed are stored or cached in the notes document for later processing. These cached requests are processed and the requested information inserted into the user's notes document at a later time.

  • Patent number: 7672543
Abstract: A Mixed Media Reality (MMR) system and associated techniques are disclosed. The MMR system provides mechanisms for forming a mixed media document that includes media of at least two types (e.g., printed paper as a first medium and digital content and/or web link as a second medium). In one particular embodiment, the MMR system includes an action processor and method, and MMR documents with an associated action. The MMR document structure is particularly advantageous because the ability to specify different actions for different MMR documents, combined with the ability to create any number of MMR documents for a particular location on any media, allows the MMR architecture to serve as a universal trigger or initiator for additional processing. In other words, addition processing or actions can be triggered or initiated based on MMR recognition. The action processor receives the output of the MMR recognition process which yields an MMR document including at least one action.

  • Patent number: 7664733
Abstract: Recorded information is accessed. A source document is determined using the recorded information. If a criterion is satisfied based on the recorded information and the source document, an action to be performed is determined. The action is then performed if it is determined that the criterion is satisfied.

  • Publication number: 20090285444
Abstract: A web-based image detection system includes: an image capture device, a web browser, a plug-in, and a recognition server. A captured image is processed by the plug-in to assess whether a pre-determined content type is contained with in the image. Once an initial analysis at the browser plug-in detects a pre-determined content type in an image, the image is transmitted to a recognition server for content recognition of the image by content type. The system thus enables users to link documents or other image types to electronic data using only a capture device and a web browser.

  • Patent number: 7606444
Abstract: A meeting recorder captures multimodal information of a meeting. Subsequent analysis of the information produces scores indicative of visually and aurally significant events that can help identify significant segments of the meeting recording. Textual analysis can enhance searching for significant meeting segments and otherwise enhance the presentation of the meeting segments.

  • Patent number: 7603615
Abstract: A multimedia projector/printer system capable of displaying, printing, and controlling all multimedia content associated with a multi-media document. The multimedia projector/printer has a multimedia image generator. A print driver interface is provided that allows users to “print” a multimedia document to the projector. The multimedia driver embeds instructions and codes within a document that are retrieved and removed before the projector produces an image. The instructions and codes indicate multimedia data to be fetched over the network. The multimedia projector/printer also provides the option to display multimedia data regardless of the software application from which created it.

  • Publication number: 20090219264
Abstract: A system for displaying video on electronic paper displays to reduce video playback artifacts comprises an electronic paper display, a video display driver, a video transcoder, a display controller, a memory buffer and a waveforms module. The video display driver receives a re-formatted video stream, which has been processed by the video transcoder, from the memory buffer. The video display driver directs the video transcoder to process the video stream and generate pixel data. The video display driver loads waveforms into the frame buffer and updates display commands repeatedly to activate the display controller until the end of the video playback. The video display driver directs copying video frames sequentially one by one from the memory buffer to the frame buffer in real time during the video playback. The video transcoder receives a video stream for presentation on the electronic paper display and processes the video stream generating pixel data that is provided to the display controller.
