  • Patent number: 4589413
Abstract: The disclosure is made of a surgical instrument comprising a suturing device having a supporting body and a staple body with an ejector for ejecting staples therefrom for suturing, the bodies being coupled together by means of a pivot device adjacent one end, and a retainer is provided at the other end thereof for locking a relative position of the bodies. A cutting device is provided for cutting tissues. The pivot device is coupled to one of the bodies by means of a mechanism for moving the body in the plane thereof in parallel with itself with respect to the pivot device. The retainer is of a length which is adjustable in accordance with the amount of movement of one of the bodies.

  • Patent number: 4485811
Abstract: The resection apparatus includes a cutting instrument, e.g., a laser beam, and a unit for suturing the organ being resected, incorporating an oblong die with depressions for staples to bend, an oblong detachable staple body with a staple magazine and a staple ejector. A holder of the staple body has two members and, of which the first member is arranged parallel to the die and is rigidly coupled thereto, whereas the second member is arranged square with the former one, is offset transversely with respect to it and carries a retainer, to lock the staple body in position. Provision is also made in the apparatus for a hold-down frame set on the second member transversely in the plane of movement of the staple body so as encompass, while in one of its positions, the die along the external perimeter thereof for clamping the organ being resected. The first member has guideways for the cutting instrument to set and traverse.

  • Patent number: 4185633
Abstract: Biological tissue is dissected by means of a mechanical cutting instrument, while the coagulation of the walls of the incision is effected simultaneously with the dissection by means of a laser beam, for which a laser beam spot is formed in the immediate proximity to the cutting instrument's cutting edge. An apparatus for the realization of this method combines a mechanical cutting instrument made preferably of a material transparent to laser emission, and a structure for the formation of a laser beam spot in the immediate proximity to the cutting instrument's cutting edge. In the preferred embodiment the cutting instrument itself provides for the formation of the spot close to the cutting edge.

  • Patent number: 4144888
Abstract: A wavebeam guide transmitting the laser emission to a selected region of a patient comprises only two mirrors; an input mirror and a output mirror, which mirrors are mounted in units of the device connected by a telescopic shaft. The input mirror is mounted so that it can rotate about an axis coinciding with the axis of the laser beam falling thereupon and about an axis perpendicular thereto. The output mirror can also rotate about the axis of the laser beam falling thereon and about the perpendicular axis. Both mirrors can also rotate together in relation to the axes of rotation of the input mirror and the distance between the mirrors can be changed by means of the telescopic shaft. An aiming grip is provided to carry a focusing lens mounted so that it can rotate about the axis of the laser beam reflected by the output mirror.

  • Patent number: 4143660
Abstract: A method whereby a hollow organ is compressed from two sides along an intended line of section after which simultaneous dissection and welding of the edges of the cavities formed is carried out by moving a focused laser beam along said line. The degree of compressing the organ's walls is within the range from 1/5 to 1/2 of the initial thickness of said walls.A device for accomplishing said method has a pair of clamping jaws drawn together or apart by means of clamps. One of the jaws serves as a guide path for a carriage, mounted on which is the exit portion of a light guide with a focusing lens. The light guide is connected with a laser. A through slot is made in one of the jaws along the line of intended section and a groove is provided on the other jaw opposite said slot. The walls of the slot and the groove have a surface reflecting the laser beam.
