    Abstract: An electrical connector component assembly (10) provides for shielding as between components of the connector. An electrically conductive outer housing (12) includes a plurality of discrete bounded compartments (30). A plurality of electrically insulative terminal support elements (14, 16) are supported individually in the bounded compartments. Plural electrical contacts are supported in at least one of the support elements. The electrical contacts supported in the one support element are electrically shielded from the components of the other support element by the bounded compartments. The electrical connector component assembly (10) may be interconnected to an identical connector in hermaphroditic fashion such that mating contact surfaces (74) engage one another locking the contact to the like contact.

    Abstract: A shielded right angle D-faced connector is provided for mounting on a printed circuit board and for attachment to a complementary electrical connector. The connector comprises an insulator of insulative material supporting a plurality of electrical contacts each formed to have a right angle terminal pin for soldering to the printed circuit board. The connector further comprises a conductive shell supported on the insulator for shielding the contacts. Two one-piece, die-cast metal latching blocks are provided at the respective ends of the connector, each latching block including latching members for attaching to the complementary connector. Each latching block includes keying elements for cooperative engagement with the insulator body to provide proper alignment and anti-rotation resistance thereto. Two conductive locking clips are included, each clip being supported by the insulator body and secured electrically to the conductive shell to provide an electrical grounding pair thereto.

    Abstract: A right-angle electrical connector comprises an insulator supporting a plurality of electrical contacts therein. The insulator includes a locator plate having a plurality of open faced slots with parallel, straight sidewalls for retentive receipt of the contacts therein. Each contact has a mating portion that is received in an aperture in the insulator, a retention portion received in the insulator slots and a terminal portion serving as a solder post for subsequent soldering to circuits on a printed circuit board. Each retention portion is of solid cross-section and preferably comprises a trapezoidal cross-section with its non-parallel edges defining relatively sharp barbs. During insertion the barbs engage the respective sidewalls in interference fit, deforming the sidewalls in a manner to retain the contact therein and to resist movement thereof in both the horizontal and vertical directions.

    Abstract: A shielded electrical jack connector comprises an insulator having a cavity therewithin and an aperture communicating with the cavity through an outer surface thereof. The aperture defines a receptacle for receipt of a plug connector therein. A modular jack insert having an insulative body and supporting a plurality of electrical contacts, each being terminated to an insulated conductor, is retentively received in the insulator. The contacts of the jack insert extend into the insulator cavity in cantilevered fashion for access to complementary contacts of the mateable plug connector. An electrically conductive shield is supported by the insulator, the shield having an opening through which the insulated conductors of the insert extend. An electrically conductive ground contact is supported by the insulator in engagement with the shield, the ground contact comprising a terminal extending into the cavity for engagement with the plug connector upon receipt thereof into the receptacle.
