  • Patent number: 6975835
Abstract: An interactive radio system is disclosed. The overall architecture of the interactive radio system includes a broadcast system for broadcasting digital information across a radio signal to web radio receiver units. An interactive broadcast reception system includes a general purpose computer having a processor, display, and storage and internet connection, a broadcast receiver to communicate with the general purpose computer and to decode digital subcarrier data formatted as a broadcast markup language document, and application software that runs on the processor of the computer and communicates with the broadcast receiver to control the operation of the broadcast receiver and to respond to broadcast markup language commands in said broadcast markup language document by connecting to an internet address referenced in said digital subcarrier data.

  • Publication number: 20030191709
Abstract: The system described is an electronic payment and loyalty systems for retail and automatic unattended vending. In particular the invention relates to an electronic payment and loyalty system wherein the customer account information is cached in a nonvolatile memory on the payment terminal or point of sale system while addressing the problems of securely storing customer account information, operation of the system during a failure of the server or network, and the use of customer account synchronization scheduling to limit merchant fraud risk in a network or retail locations and to maximize the peak transaction capacity of the available server and network infrastructure. When the customer account information is not available at the payment terminal, transactions are processed with an online connection to the payment server. The invention allows customers to use and fund electronic stored value accounts at merchant locations without the need for an online connection to the payment system server.

  • Publication number: 20020143655
Abstract: A remote ordering system particularly suited to mobile customers placing remote orders with any one of a group of affiliated merchants for pick up by the customer at a specific merchant location. The system includes a database or store information directory that contains information characterizing order-processing features for each location. The information is preferably organized according to a schema corresponding to the organizational structure of the group of merchants. The information may include order fulfillment capability, menus, prices, payment features, taxes, security protocols and system administration privileges specific to each merchant location or sub-groups of merchant locations.

  • Publication number: 20020120582
Abstract: In an electronic remote ordering system, an initial order from a new customer may be processed using limited information, with activation of the customer account, possibly including a payment account, occurring upon the customer's attendance at a customer-specified merchant point of sale for order fulfillment. Activation of the accounts may be upon obtaining a contract signature from the customer and/or in person verification of the customer's identity at the point of sale. Payment account information may be secured remotely or upon attendance at the point of sale. In the latter case, payment account information can be electronically captured from the means of payment tendered by the customer. The invention eases the burden on new customers and allows effective authentication during account creation.

  • Publication number: 20010042146
Abstract: A microcontroller or microprocessor-controlled broadcast receiver embedded in an external peripheral with a digital communications interface. In one embodiment, a microprocessor-controlled broadcast receiver is embedded in the housing of an external computer peripheral. The external computer peripheral is connected to a personal computer (PC) via a digital communications link such as USB (universal serial bus). Control data is relayed from the personal computer to the broadcast receiver in the external computer peripheral via the digital communications link. Audio signals received by the broadcast receiver in the external computer peripheral may also be relayed to the personal computer via the digital communications link or via an analog interface for recording storage, or manipulation by the personal computer. The broadcast receiver may also receive data signals in addition to audio signals (datacasting). The data or audio signals or both may be encrypted.

  • Patent number: 5395592
Abstract: An acoustic liquid processing device in the form of a vessel having an interior wall which surround a process liquid. An electrostatic film transducer is attached to the interior wall to substantially envelop a selected volume of the process liquid. The transducer's acoustic impedance is approximately equal to that of the process liquid. The transducer is energized to subject the process liquid to acoustic vibration.
