Patent number: 7489928Abstract: A method for preventing radio frequency (RF) link failures in a radio telecommunication network. The network includes at least one base station (402) and at least one subscriber unit (SU) (406) which are capable of sending and receiving RF link signals. The method provides for monitoring the RF link between the base station (402) and the SU (406) and determining if the RF link is failing (216), and if so, taking corrective action to maintain the RF Link. The method provides for storing information about the RF Link failure and the corrective action taken (224) and utilizes the corrective action taken in prior RF Link failures to prevent future RF Link failures. The method provides for determining that an old corrective action for improving the RF Link channel quality no longer improves the RF Link channel quality and, therefore, provides for discarding the old corrective action in favor of a new corrective action (234).Type: GrantFiled: December 31, 2002Date of Patent: February 10, 2009Inventor: Brian K. Patent number: 7224970Abstract: A wireless station (114) is within range of more than one access point (120, 124) transmitting on the same channel. The wireless station is associated with one access point and not the other. Consequently the wireless station may receive undesired beacons (304) and desired beacons (302) on the channel. To optimize power save operation the wireless station arbitrates between a scan and shut down scanning procedure (708) and a timed window channel scanning procedure (724), depending on whether the desired beacon is the first received beacon upon waking up from a low power state at a target beacon time.Type: GrantFiled: October 26, 2004Date of Patent: May 29, 2007Assignee: Motorola, Inc.Inventors: Brian K. Patent number: 6985837Abstract: A system for presenting meteorological information uses a browser interface to access massive amounts of weather-related data in the form of images stored on the server-side of the system. A user having a common browser on a Web client accesses the server-side information to selectively assemble weather-related data on multiple overlays of images and/or graphics into one simultaneous presentation on a Web page. The different overlays are normalized with respect to time and space, and a user can separately generate graphically miniaturized presentations of weather-related data for saving and subsequently recalling each presentation, wherein each presentation is displayed with current relativized data. The user can also select or customize derived variables to be distinctively displayed as part of a presentation.Type: GrantFiled: November 1, 2002Date of Patent: January 10, 2006Inventors: Dennis A. Patent number: 6466614Abstract: A processor (1104) receives a baseband signal including a plurality of symbols, and determines (1002) a maximum modulation level and a minimum modulation level in the baseband signal through a modified self-organizing map clustering technique. The processor initializes (1008) a plurality of clusters (700, 800) corresponding to the plurality of modulation levels, based upon the maximum and minimum modulation levels; and processes (1010), through a modified adaptive k-means clustering technique, a symbol value corresponding to each of the plurality of symbols by updating (1012) parameters maintained for a cluster of the plurality of clusters, the cluster having a cluster mean value within a modulation-specified distance from the symbol value. The processor calculates (1014) a plurality of statistical values from the parameters maintained for the plurality of clusters, and classifies (1016, 1018, 1020) the baseband signal, based upon the plurality of statistical values and the parameters.Type: GrantFiled: March 22, 2001Date of Patent: October 15, 2002Assignee: Motorola, Inc.Inventor: Brian K. Patent number: 5592288Abstract: An optical component assembly is created with reduced defects in the adhesion and alignment between the optical components. A first rigid optical component is placed into a cavity. A second rigid optical component is placed into the cavity such that it is supported by a first support device which prevents a first end of the second rigid optical component from contacting a corresponding first end of the first rigid optical component. Air is evacuated from a chamber formed between the first and second rigid optical components. The support of the first support device is removed so that the first end of the second rigid optical component comes into contact with the first end of the first rigid optical component with a layer of adhesive material sandwiched therebetween. A force is applied to urge surfaces of the first and second rigid optical components toward one another to improve adhesion between the two.Type: GrantFiled: April 28, 1995Date of Patent: January 7, 1997Assignee: Rockwell International Corp.Inventors: James D.
