  • Patent number: 9106971
Abstract: Architecture for the delivery of IP-based messages from wired and/or wireless devices to a television system. The means for delivery can be via an Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) technology. The message is processed through a messaging system that obtains a mapping of a message address to an IPTV address, and routes the message to an IPTV network for delivery the desired television system for presentation. Messaging can be via SMS (short message service) for textual content, MMS (multimedia messaging service) for multimedia content, or other messaging technologies, such as instant messaging, an e-mail, for example. Optionally, the message from the user device can include a request for confirmation of delivery of the message to the television. The confirmation can then be routed back over an IP data network to the user device and presented to the user.

  • Patent number: 9092773
Abstract: Devices, systems, and methods are disclosed for tracking financial transactions at their source, generating transaction records, categorizing and storing the records, and providing services related to the records. Transactions performed between a mobile device and a point-of-sale may automatically generate transaction records including electronic receipts that may be categorized and stored on a database. More traditional transactions such as those involving cash, paper receipts, etc. may be captured via a scanner on the mobile device for inclusion within a transaction record and subsequent categorization and storage. Notifications such as alerts, offers, and recommendations may be provided in real-time or close-in-time to the transaction being performed, thereby enabling services such as budgeting, inventory management, rewards, offers, etc.

  • Patent number: 9037151
Abstract: In a communications spectrum shared by public safety users and commercial users, in the event of an emergency condition, commercial users are preempted and corresponding resources are reallocated to authorized public safety users. When the emergency condition subsides, the reallocated resources are again made available for commercial use. In an example configuration, resources and associated attributes including preemptability status are maintained in a Base Station Controller (BSC), Radio Network Controller (RNC), and/or Radio Resource Control (RRC) of a communications network.

  • Patent number: 8948719
Abstract: A Commercial Mobile Alert Message System (CMAS) message comprises a message identifier indicative of the type of alert message in the CMAS message. The identifier is used by a mobile device configured to receive and process CMAS messages to determine if the message alert is to be rendered via the mobile device. The identifier also can be used to place the mobile device in a power conservation state. In an example configuration, the mobile device interprets the message identifier to determine if a subscriber wants the message rendered. If the subscriber wants the message rendered, the mobile device processes and renders the message appropriately. If the subscriber does not want the message rendered, the message is ignored and optionally, the mobile device is placed in a power conservation mode.

  • Patent number: 8948721
Abstract: Systems and methods for providing alerts to end users of networked enabled portable devices are provided so that the end users are made aware when broadcast emergency alerts are issued. In various embodiments, a portable device is enabled to receive information about an emergency alert broadcast of which the user should be aware, e.g., from the EAS, and to notify the user of the emergency alert. The user can be automatically taken to the emergency alert information by having the portable device automatically tune to the emergency broadcast information, the user can optionally retrieve the emergency information by tuning to the emergency broadcast channel, and/or the user can otherwise be presented with a reference to the emergency data, such as a link to the information.

  • Patent number: 8874109
Abstract: A method and system automatically activates a mobile station in a wireless communications network. The system includes an over the air activation function (OTAF) processor in the network that initiates an activation process in response to receiving a registration message from a mobile switching center serving the mobile station requesting the activation. Each mobile station has a unit of information stored into it at the time of its manufacture to enable it to request over the air activation. That unit of information is either the network routing address of the OTAF processor, or alternately, it is a value that is translatable into that address, either an OTAF ID number that is the same value for every mobile station or it is a sequentially serialized dummy value for the mobile identification number (a dummy MIN).

  • Patent number: 8824995
Abstract: A mobile device may be activated and/or updated to receive alert messages from a network. For example, the mobile device may initiate a registration request with a network. Upon initiating the registration request, the mobile device may receive a network identifier from the network. The mobile device may then access information associated with alert messages for a location of the network based on the network identifier such that the mobile device may be activated to receive an alert message from the network based on the accessed information.
