  • Publication number: 20190306710
Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media, for onboarding one or more Multi-AP devices using a device provisioning protocol (DPP) and a Multi-AP communication protocol. In one aspect, a first Multi-AP device may determine, during an onboarding process, DPP configuration information that was derived using the DPP. The first Multi-AP device may establish a Multi-AP network configuration between the first Multi-AP device and a second Multi-AP device using the Multi-AP communication protocol based, at least in part, on the DPP configuration information. In one aspect, the DPP configuration information may be derived remotely by the network operator prior to device deployment. In one aspect, a configurator station (STA) may be delegated as the DPP configurator by the network operator, and may onboard one or more STAs into the Multi-AP network using the DPP and the Multi-AP communication protocol.

  • Publication number: 20190037460
Abstract: Disclosed are methods and systems for a wireless communication network including detecting a trigger to switch a serving channel at a first access point, and communicating a first channel switch message from the first access point to a second access point. The first access point may be in a downstream and/or upstream or communication flow in relation to the second access point. The process may include communicating a first Channel Switching Announcement (CSA) message from the second access point to at least one client of the second access point, where the least one client is one of a plurality of clients receiving internet connectivity through a series of communication flows including a data flow through the second access point. • Publication number: 20180302832
Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer-readable media, for serving AP selection in a network having multiple access points (APs). In one aspect, a serving AP selection unit can steer a device (such as a client station, STA, or a child AP) based on a quality of service profile (such as a capacity requirement or a delay requirement) of the device. The device may be initially associated with a first AP (as the current serving AP) in the network. The serving AP selection unit may select a second AP as a new serving AP for the device, and cause the device to associate with the second AP rather than the first AP. The selection of a serving AP may take into account delay or hop count in addition to path capacities for various paths in the network.

  • Patent number: 10091682
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. Methods, systems, and devices provide for determining or identifying a client device that is monopolizing a channel associated with a first basic service set (BSS). Once identified, a second BSS is dynamically created and configured with parameters that are throttled with respect to the first BSS. The client device is steered to the second BSS and is prevented from reassociating with the first BSS until a change in device status.

  • Publication number: 20180279192
Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer-readable media, for steering an association of a device in a network having multiple access points (APs). In one aspect, a first AP can obtain per-AP metric information regarding a plurality of other APs in the network. The per-AP metric information may include backhaul performance information regarding at least one wireless backhaul channel in the network. The per-AP metric information may include an estimated air time fraction value reported by the other APs. A selection to steer the device from the first AP to a second AP can be based, at least in part, on the per-AP metric information. In some implementations, a Multi-AP Controller can redistribute per-AP metric information collected from multiple APs in the network. In some implementations, a topology of the network may be optimized by steering a child AP to another wireless backhaul link.

  • Publication number: 20180279130
Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, methods, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer-readable media, for enhanced channel selection in a network having multiple access points (APs). The enhanced channel selection may optimize the overall performance of the network by incorporating considerations about the impact on other APs in a big-picture view of the network. In one aspect, enhanced channel selection may combine a first channel selection process at a first AP (based on first channel selection by the first AP) with a second channel selection at a Multi-AP Controller. Coordination between the first AP and the Multi-AP Controller may improve a channel selection technique to optimize channel selection based on considerations of the overall network.

  • Patent number: 9942800
Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media, for load balancing network traffic in a wireless network. In one aspect, an access point may determine a plurality of client devices that are associated with an overloaded channel of the wireless network. The access point may identify a first client device of the plurality of client devices based, at least in part, on an airtime consumed on the overloaded channel. The access point may determine one or more alternate paths between the access point and the first client device. The access point may forecast airtime to be used by the first client device on channels of the one or more alternate paths, and steer wireless network traffic of the first client device to a first alternate path of the one or more alternate paths based, at least in part, on the forecasted airtime.

  • Patent number: 9913193
Abstract: A first access point (AP) detects a communication between a client device and a second AP. The first AP determines at least one criteria for AP steering is satisfied. AP steering is then used by the first AP to cause the client device to associate with the first AP, or a particular network of the first AP. For example, the first AP may transmit a disassociation message to the client device. The disassociation message may identify the second AP associated with the client device and cause the client device to disassociate from the second AP. After the client device disassociates from the second AP, the client device may select and associate with the first AP. The first AP may manage which network the client device associates with using a blacklist at the first AP.

  • Publication number: 20170353961
Abstract: Various embodiments include systems and methods for managing radio utilization by a processor of a wireless access point. In response to receiving an access request from a wireless station, the processor may determine whether a multi-user (MU) physical layer quality of a communication link between a radio of the access point and the wireless station exceeds a quality threshold. The processor may determine whether a load of the radio of the access point is below a load threshold in response to determining that the MU physical layer quality of the communication link exceeds the quality threshold. The processor may associate the wireless station with the radio of the access point in response to determining that the load of the radio of the access point is below the load threshold. The processor may monitor established communication links to determine whether a change in association of radios with wireless stations is appropriate.

  • Patent number: 9642040
Abstract: With multiple communication channels available and range extenders, a number of paths may be available for communicating traffic in a wireless network. Traffic on paths in the wireless network may be load balanced to improve channel utilization and/or relieve an overloaded communication channel. To load balance the traffic, a first AP may determine candidate paths between a first AP and a client device, wherein at least one of the candidate paths traverses a second AP. The AP may determine available bandwidths of the candidate paths based, at least in part, on availability of communication channels of the candidate paths. The AP may steer a portion of the wireless network traffic of the client device to a first of the candidate paths based, at least in part, on the available bandwidths.
