  • Patent number: 7480096
Abstract: Embodiments of modifying an optical characteristic of a screen are disclosed.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 8, 2005
Date of Patent: January 20, 2009
    Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.
Inventors: Gregory J. May, Brian S. Dixon
  • Patent number: 7460179
Abstract: A display system may include an identifier configured to identify an image display condition associated with the display of an image produced by the display system, an apparatus configured to produce a plurality of differently colored images, and a display device. The images have color characteristics based on image information and the identified display condition. Differently colored images may be directed along associated portions of an optical path. The display device may be coupled to the apparatus and may be configured to display a color image formed of the differently colored images.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 14, 2003
Date of Patent: December 2, 2008
    Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.
Inventors: Michael A Pate, William J. Allen, Brian S Dixon
  • Patent number: 7391475
Abstract: A method of producing a display image comprises receiving image information representing an image to be displayed, producing an image formed of a plurality of images of different colors, and projecting the produced image along an optical path. The differently colored images have color intensities related to energy applied to a light source. A level of energy is applied to the light source during production of the image of one color that is different than the level of energy applied to the light source during production of the image of another color.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 14, 2003
Date of Patent: June 24, 2008
    Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.
Inventors: Michael A Pate, William J. Allen, Brian S Dixon
  • Patent number: 7283181
Abstract: A display system is configured to produce a color image formed of a plurality of differently colored images and may include at least one light source that directs light along an optical path, and at least one filter having a given optical filter characteristic. The display system may be selectively operable in a first state in which the optical path does not pass through a first filter during production of the plurality of differently colored images to form a color image having a first optical characteristic, and in a second state in which the optical path passes through the first filter during production of the plurality of differently colored images to form a color image having a second optical characteristic different than the first optical characteristic.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 14, 2003
Date of Patent: October 16, 2007
    Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.
Inventors: William J. Allen, Brian S Dixon, Michael A Pate, Peter Guy Howard
  • Patent number: 7221374
Abstract: A method for adjusting color of images displayed in ambient light. A signal may be sensed from a plurality of spectral regions of an ambient light source to define a sensed signature of the ambient light source. The sensed signature may be compared to predetermined signatures of candidate light sources to identify a candidate light source that corresponds to the ambient light source. Images may be created so that the images are modified by a predefined color adjustment for the candidate light source identified.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 21, 2003
Date of Patent: May 22, 2007
    Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.
    Inventor: Brian S. Dixon
  • Patent number: 7002565
Abstract: Signaling a display device to automatically characterize a video signal is disclosed. In a method of an embodiment of the invention, a display device that has a video signal characterization circuit is signaled to automatically characterize a video signal of a video source. A predetermined characterization image is provided on the video signal of the video source for the display device to automatically characterize.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 28, 2002
Date of Patent: February 21, 2006
    Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.
Inventors: William J. Allen, James R Cole, Brian S Dixon
  • Publication number: 20040212546
Abstract: A method for color management in a display system based on perception. A plurality of images may be displayed to a viewer using an additive display device. Each image of the plurality may have a different color adjustment and at least two colors. An input may be received from the viewer selecting an image of the plurality based on the viewer's color perception of such image relative to other images of the plurality. Subsequent images may be displayed according to the different color adjustment of the image selected.
    Type: Application
