    Abstract: A modified sol-gel method to create metal-rich siliceous material, such as colloidal silica or aluminosilicate particles is disclosed. Initially, the metal salt of choice is added to a silicic acid solution or a silicic acid solution containing aluminum salt. The aluminum is added to vary the metal-support interaction as it forms Al—O—Si linkages within the silica matrix. Besides aluminum, other metals can be added that form M-O—Si (M=Ti, B, etc.) linkages, which do not become reduced when treated with a reducing agent. Once the metal, silicic acid and/or aluminum salt is generated, it is subjected to colloidal growth by addition to a basic heel. Upon colloidal synthesis, the metal salt containing colloidal particle is left as is to maximize colloidal stability or is reduced with hydrazine to produce the zero valence metal-containing colloidal particle.

    Abstract: Organosilane-modified nanoparticles of silica, having a particle size of no more than 1 micron, in which the organosilane resides throughout the entire volume of the nanoparticles and not just at the surfaces of the nanoparticle. The nanoparticles may be in a colloidal solution. They may be prepared by hydrolyzing an alkali silicate under acidic conditions to obtain a silicic acid dispersion, followed by adding an organosilane having hydroxyl and/or hydrolyzable groups to the dispersion under acid conditions; and then raising the pH of the dispersion to at least eight to form the nanoparticles. They may be used in an effective paint primer/protective coating formulation.

The conveyor systems include a lubricious liner adhesively attached to a surface of a conveyor or an article for transport on the conveyor, such that the liner is disposed between the article and the surface. The lubricious liners facilitate the transport of the articles by the conveyor systems.

    Abstract: The present application discloses a method of forming an inorganic macroporous material. In some embodiments, the method includes: providing a sample of organic polymer particles having a particle size distribution of no greater than about 10%; forming a colloidal crystal template of the sample of organic polymer particles, the colloidal crystal template including a plurality of organic polymer particles and interstitial spaces therebetween; adding an inorganic precursor composition including a noncolloidal inorganic precursor to the colloidal crystal template such that the precursor composition permeates the interstitial spaces between the organic polymer particles; converting the noncolloidal inorganic precursor to a hardened inorganic framework; and removing the colloidal crystal template from the hardened inorganic framework to form a macroporous material. Inorganic macroporous materials are also disclosed.
