  • Publication number: 20160376497
Abstract: Methods of treating a subterranean formation penetrated by a wellbore include providing environmental water, admixing a viscosifying amount of a polymer and at least one divalent cation with the environmental water to form an admixture, and pumping the admixture through the wellbore at a rate and pressure sufficient to treat the subterranean formation. The viscosity of the admixture increases after the at least one divalent cation, the viscosifying amount of polymer and the environmental water are admixed. Such viscosity increase may be at least about 5% over at least a 10 minute period after the admixture is prepared. The divalent cation(s) may be selected from the group consisting of barium, calcium, copper(II), iron(II), magnesium, manganese(II), strontium, tin(II), zinc, and mixtures thereof. Further, the divalent cation(s) may be provided in the form of a salt with one or more anions selected from acetate, bicarbonate, nitrate, chloride, bromide, iodide, sulfate ion, and mixtures thereof.

  • Publication number: 20160369961
Abstract: A lighting apparatus is for use with a projection-receiving surface. The lighting apparatus includes a light-filtering assembly configured to block transmission of a first amount of light emitted by a light source towards the projection-receiving surface. This is done in such a way that blocked transmission of the first amount of light forms a projected shadow region on the projection-receiving surface. The light-filtering assembly is also configured to permit transmission of a second amount of light emitted by the light source towards the projection-receiving surface. This is done in such a way that transmission of the second amount of light forms a projected glow region on the projection-receiving surface. A filter-moving assembly is configured to move the light-filtering assembly. This is done in such a way that the projected shadow region and the projected glow region move and combine to form a variable curved wave pattern.

  • Publication number: 20160148373
Abstract: Image recording devices and systems are disclosed along with methods for image recording. The systems can be in communication with a manual imaging device having an imaging probe configured to scan a volume of tissue and output scan images. The systems can be further configured to electronically receive first and second images and to calculate an image-to-image spacing between the first and second images. The systems can further perform an image quality analysis on the scan images and record the scan images if movement of the imaging probe is detected and the scan images satisfy the image quality analysis. The systems can also include a position tracking system. Position sensors and/or orientation sensors can be coupled to the imaging probe to determine the position and orientation of the imaging probe. The systems can be configured to associate the position and orientation data with the scanned images.

  • Publication number: 20150350308
Abstract: According to one aspect, a system for locating application-specific data that includes a server, a broker, and an agent. An operator may define a command using the server, and this command may be sent to the broker. The broker may then send the command to the agent operating on an end-point system. The agent may then conduct an application-specific data search on the end-point system in respect of the user command. Search results may then be sent to the broker. The broker may then sent the search results to the server.

  • Patent number: 8965021
Abstract: An implantable bone-conduction hearing actuator based on a piezoelectric element, such as a unimorph or bimorph cantilever bender, is described. Unlike other implantable bone conduction hearing actuators, the device is subcutaneous and once implanted is entirely invisible. • Patent number: 8902902
Abstract: A hardware trie structure includes a tree of internal node circuits and leaf node circuits. Each internal node is configured by a corresponding multi-bit node control value (NCV). Each leaf node can output a corresponding result value (RV). An input value (IV) supplied onto input leads of the trie causes signals to propagate through the trie such that one of the leaf nodes outputs one of the RVs onto output leads of the trie. In a transactional memory, a memory stores a set of NCVs and RVs. In response to a lookup command, the NCVs and RVs are read out of memory and are used to configure the trie. The IV of the lookup is supplied to the input leads, and the trie looks up an RV. A non-final RV initiates another lookup in a recursive fashion, whereas a final RV is returned as the result of the lookup command.

  • Patent number: 8700769
Abstract: A system and method for implementing an integrated information system are provided. A premises server is in communication with a variety of information sources that produce monitoring data for a premises. The premises server collects, presents, and transmits the monitoring device data to a central server capable of processing data from multiple premises servers. The central server receives the data and traverses one or more logical rule sets to determine whether the inputted data violates the rules. Based on an evaluation of the rules, the central server generates outputs in the form of communication to one or more authorized users via a variety of communication mediums and devices and/or the instigation of a variety of acts corresponding to the evaluation of the rules.

  • Patent number: 8665545
Abstract: A “write-squeeze-verify” method is used for verification of the data that has been written in the annular bands of a shingled magnetic recording disk drive. The writing of data along a track overwrites a portion of the previously written track and thus “squeezes” the data of the previously written track to thereby form a “shingled data track” (SDT). The data in each SDT is read back and verified by an error correction check using error correction bits associated with the data written in the SDT, or by comparing the readback data with the data stored in memory. If the data read back is not verified, a write error counter is incremented and a write error frequency is calculated. One or more attempts to write the data can be performed. If the data in the SDT cannot be verified after the attempted rewrite(s), then a “re-try fail” is reported.

  • Publication number: 20140033333
Abstract: The present invention relates to a transgenic pig as a model for studying a cone affecting disease, in particular a cone dystrophy or cone-rod-dystrophy, wherein the pig model expresses a dominant negative guanylate-cyclase-2D (GUCY2D) protein, in particular a GUCY2D protein comprising at least one mutation responsible for the appearance of a CORD6 cone dystrophy in a human being. The invention further relates to methods by which the transgenic pig is produced, to uses of said transgenic pig or of one of its elements to identify new biomarkers of a cone affecting disease and/or new compounds for preventing or treating such a disease. Novel methods for preventing or treating a cone affecting disease or for evaluating conditions needed to alleviate such a disease are further herein described.

  • Patent number: 8531793
Abstract: A hard disk drive (HDD) minimizes the effects of far track erasure (FTE) by counting the number of writes to the data tracks and incrementing counters based on the known effect of FTE on each track. The extent of the FTE effect is determined for each track within a range of tracks of the track being written, and based on the relative FTE effect for all the tracks in the range a count increment (CI) is determined for each track within the range. A counter is maintained for each track. For every writing to a track, a count for each track within a range of the track being written is increased by the CI value associated with the track number within the range. When the count value for a track reaches a predetermined threshold the data is read from that track and rewritten, preferably to the same track.
