The blood collection system comprises an electric motor which provides energy for propelling a lancet. The use of a mechanical energy store allows the use of known mechanical drive elements. The blood collection system can also be electrically activated and is thus easy to use for the operator. The motor can also be coupled to another system component, such as a test strip or lancet drum, to operate it.

In exemplary embodiments, the magazine includes a second desiccant supply.
