    Abstract: A pressure feedback system continuously monitors the level of pressure or force on a brush head and is programmed to provide a feedback signal to a user based on the amount of pressure. The pressure level is monitored as a function of the change in the speed of the drive shaft. The system includes a housing, a motor, a drive shaft for attachment to a brush head, a feedback device, a sensor capable of detecting a change in the rotational speed of the drive shaft, and a microprocessor. The microprocessor is programmed activate the feedback device as a function of the measured change in rotational speed. The sensor may be a Hall effect sensor, or another sensor that is responsive to a magnetic field. A magnet may be positioned on the drive shaft, or another portion of the system that moves as a function of the drive shaft.

    Abstract: A divided dental floss spool for use with a dental floss container for dispensing dental floss. The spool includes a cylindrical core having distal ends, and a circular flange disposed around the core at each distal end. The spool also includes a plurality of circular divider discs disposed around the core and positioned at spaced intervals between the flanges. Adjacent divider discs and flanges define a plurality of channels therebetween, and a length of dental floss is wound around the core within each of the plurality of channels. The act of moving between adjacent channels as the dental floss is unwound provides tactile feedback to a user to indicate that a predetermined length of dental floss has been unspooled.

The eccentric extension engages an angled slot in the bristle carrier to drive the bristle carrier. The brush shaft, including the eccentric extension and the axial extension, may be formed together as a single unitary piece.

    Abstract: The present invention provides an interdental cleaning tool with a plastic handle and a soft pick. The handle is molded from a thermoplastic material and includes a grip portion and an extension portion. The pick is molded from a thermoset material over the extension portion of the handle. The pick tapers to a distal tip for insertion between a user's teeth and has a sidewall including a plurality of nubs extending from the sidewall. A method for manufacturing the tool includes: (a) injection molding a plastic handle from a thermoplastic material, the handle including a grip portion and an extension portion extending from the grip portion; and (b) injection molding a pick from a thermoset material over the extension portion of the plastic handle such that the grip portion of the handle remains exposed. The handle and the pick are molded in the same mold cavity.

    Abstract: The present invention provides an interproximal cleaning tool including a handle that is cut from a first plastic material, and a pick molded over a portion of the handle. The pick may be precision injection molded over an extension portion of the handle from a plastic material different from the first plastic material. A method for manufacturing an interproximal cleaning tool includes the steps of: (a) providing a sheet of plastic material; (b) cutting a handle for the interproximal cleaning tool from the sheet, the handle being cut such that the handle includes a grip portion and an extension portion extending from the grip portion, the handle defining a width, wherein the width of the extension portion is narrower than the width of the grip portion; and (c) molding a plastic pick over the extension portion to form the interproximal cleaning tool.
