  • Patent number: 9336962
Abstract: The claimed embodiments contemplate methods, systems and apparatuses directed to an active display button. In various embodiments, an active display button may generally be a button containing one or more elements that move when the button is engaged. By example, and not limitation, these elements may include one or more reels, be they mechanical or video, or perhaps a rotating indicator. The active display button may also include lights, vibratory motors and other experience-enhancing implements. The active display button may be installed on a gaming machine and operated in conjunction with the gaming device, separate from the gaming machine on which it is installed or perhaps as part of the operation of the gaming machine.

  • Publication number: 20160118121
Abstract: A volatile memory data save subsystem may include a coupling to a shared power source such as a chassis or rack battery, or generator. A data save trigger controller sends a data save command toward coupled volatile memory device(s) such as NVDIMMs and PCIe devices under specified conditions: a programmable amount of time passes without AC power, a voltage level drops below normal but is still sufficient to power the volatile memory device during a data save operation, the trigger controller is notified of an operating system shutdown command, or the trigger controller is notified of an explicit data save command without a system shutdown command. NVDIMMs can avoid reliance on dedicated supercapacitors and dedicated batteries. An NVDIMM may perform an asynchronous DRAM reset in response to the data save command. Voltage step downs may be coordinated among power supplies. After data is saved, power cycles and the system reboots.

  • Patent number: 9291107
Abstract: Approaches to control engine overspeed are provided. Engine overspeed is controlled by one or more mechanisms that operate the intake and/or exhaust valves of the engine to interrupt the combustion cycle. In use, the “combustion interrupter” mechanism(s) actuate the intake and/or exhaust valves according to, for example, one or more control strategies in order to interrupt the combustion cycle and/or cause the engine to expend energy to move the pistons through a complete cycle in an aim to retard engine speed. The engine's cam(s) can include one or more sets of variable valve timing lobes that operate the intake and/or exhaust valves of the engine in order to, for example, interrupt the combustion cycle. The combustion interrupter mechanism can additionally or alternatively include one or more computer controlled actuators that operate the intake and/or exhaust valves in order, for example, to interrupt the combustion cycle.

  • Patent number: 9269221
Abstract: A system and method provides efficient and highly reliable customer and asset tracking. A Personal Digital Key (PDK) is associated with and carried by a user or fixed to an asset. The PDK wirelessly communicates with a receiver/decoder circuit (RDC) that can be coupled to a variety of electronic devices. The RDC authenticates the PDK based on received data and stores information to track customers and provide improved service. The RDC can be coupled to or integrated with a variety of electronic devices. The operation of the electronic device is determined based on an identification code of the detected PDK and an identification code of the RDC. The electronic device, the PDK or both can be configured with a personalized user interface and execute specific functions based on stored state information associated with the PDK and RDC identification codes.

  • Publication number: 20150227181
Abstract: Various techniques for managing power backup for computing devices are disclosed herein. In one embodiment, a method includes receiving data representing a backup capacity of one or more backup power units and data representing a backup power profile of one or more processing units sharing the one or more backup power units. A portion of the backup capacity may then be assigned to each of the one or more processing units based at least in part on both the received data representing the backup capacity of the one or more backup power units and the received data representing the profile of the one or more processing units.

  • Patent number: 8924781
Abstract: A data center may use generators for backup power, where the backup generators are able to serve less than the maximal power load of the data center. The use of generators that can serve less than the maximal power load may be recognized by, and addressed by, the power policy for the data center. When utility power is lost, the power policy manager may detect that the data center is switching to generator power, and may have knowledge of the capacity of those generators. If the capacity is less than the maximal power load of the data center, the power policy manager may shed load by throttling equipment in the data center to lower power levels. The policy may specify which pieces of equipment are to be throttled. When utility power is restored, the throttling of the equipment may be removed by the power policy manager.

  • Patent number: 8827803
Abstract: The claimed embodiments contemplate methods, systems and apparatuses directed to gaming machines that provide a common reel display for multiple players. Various combinations of reel lines, utilized to determine possible wins from symbols across multiple reels, of the reel display, may be available to the players. For example, a first player may be permitted to bet on one set of reel lines and a second player may bet on another set of reel lines. Also, for example, both players may bet on some reel lines and other reel lines may only be available to certain players. A community reel line may also be made available to both players or perhaps just one player upon satisfaction of certain conditions. The ability to have multiple players bet on a common reel display advantageously adds to the excitement and enjoyment of a gaming session.

  • Patent number: 8777720
Abstract: The claimed embodiments contemplate methods, systems and apparatuses directed to gaming machines that include a community spin mechanism that, when activated, causes reel displays, at two or more player stations, to spin. Certain embodiments provide for one or more community reels that are utilized to determine an outcome of a community gaming session. The community reels are “community” in that they are formed by combining reels of individual play stations in order to increase the odds, and payouts, of potential wins via various line combinations of the combined set of reels, once they stop spinning. Re-stated, by way of non-limiting example, each play station has its own set of reels and when community play is started, one or more community reels are spun along with each player's set of reels. Any potential winning combinations are then based on resulting combinations of the individual play station reels in combination with the community reels.
