  • Patent number: 4527488
Abstract: A car for charging a coke oven battery with coal. This car carries a plurality of integral coal hoppers. A particular space frame construction is disclosed to support these hoppers, and because of this construction a significant savings in the weight of the car is realized. This space frame includes a pair of horizontally spaced lower front and rear parallel transverse beams and upper front and rear parallel transverse beams. Longitudinally extending beams connect both ends of the upper and lower front transverse beams with the corresponding rear transverse beams. The above described structure is mounted on four wheel housings by means of four truss structures. Two of these wheel housings are positioned slightly in front of the front transverse beams and two are mounted slightly behind the front transverse beams.

  • Patent number: 4435250
Abstract: A device for adjusting the position of a track mounted car from a first position where the car is initially spotted by conventional braking means to a second predetermined position on the track which must be reached within close tolerances. An arm which may be pivoted in a vertical arc parallel to the track is pivotally attached to the car at its one end and at its other end it has preferably cone-shaped feeler means which engages a protrusion fixed adjacent to the track. A preferably vertical gravity based reference position is selected for the arm, and a sensing means for producting a direct current output signal proportional in magnitude to angular displacement of the arm from this position and corresponding in polarity to direction of displacement is provided.

  • Patent number: 4375389
Abstract: An apparatus that employs a pair of high peripheral speed impact cutters to remove hard carbonaceous deposits from the lateral surfaces of the refractory lining of coke oven doors. The motion of these cutters is synchronized with that of an element of the apparatus which displaces it from one position to another on the door, and, in one embodiment, means are also provided to scrape tarry carbonaceous deposits from the door's seal ring.
