Patent number: 12123738Abstract: A map database stores data describing a set of connected roadways, each having one or more lanes. A coverage system selects lanes from the map database along which AVs can stop, such as parking lanes. The coverage system generates buffer regions for each of the stopping lanes, where each buffer region includes an area within a given distance of the respective lane. The coverage system combines the buffer regions to generate a coverage area, and provides a display of the coverage area overlayed over a map of roads corresponding to the coverage area.Type: GrantFiled: October 13, 2023Date of Patent: October 22, 2024Assignee: GM Cruise Holdings LLCInventors: Sarah M. Rizk, Patrick Tyler Haas, Charles Bruce Matlack

Patent number: 12123728Abstract: Service disruption prevention through monitoring dynamic geofencing is disclosed. The present disclosure seeks to prevent (or drastically reduce the probability) mass vehicle recovery events due to fragile portions of the map. Tooling is used to actively monitor chokepoints and new avoidance areas. Comprised by the operational design domain (ODD), geofences are actively changed in response to the state of the chokepoints and avoidance areas. Varying states can be assigned to a plurality of geofences within the ODD, for example, if a geofence reaches a critical state, one or more areas can be cut off from the ODD.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 2022Date of Patent: October 22, 2024Assignee: GM Cruise Holdings LLCInventors: Jaimin Liang-Yan Hsu, Charles Bruce Matlack, Sarah M. Patent number: 11897510Abstract: The subject disclosure relates to ways to improve route duration calculations e.g., estimated time of arrival (ETA) approximations, by taking consideration of reroute probabilities along a given vehicle path. In some aspects, the disclosed technology encompasses a process including steps for identifying a route between a first destination to a second destination, determining a reroute likelihood associated with at least one AV maneuver along the route, and calculating an estimated time of arrival (ETA) based on the reroute likelihood associated with at least one AV maneuver. Systems and machine-readable media are also provided.Type: GrantFiled: March 28, 2022Date of Patent: February 13, 2024Assignee: GM Cruise Holdings LLCInventors: Nolan Finn, Yanni Cao, Charles Bruce Matlack, Chen Xie

Publication number: 20240001954Abstract: Service disruption prevention through chokepoint identification and monitoring is disclosed. The present disclosure seeks to prevent (or drastically reduce the probability) mass vehicle recovery events due to fragile portions of the map. Choke points are identified by iterating through the lane segments of a map and analyzing the effect of their removal on the service area. Once identified, tooling is used to actively monitor chokepoints using a hybrid polygon with high granularity. Down and upstream effects also can be determined. Based on the monitoring of lane segments and/or areas, location connectivity can be estimated and a map fragility calculated therefrom. If map fragility reaches a critical state, one or more areas can be cut off from the service area.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 30, 2022Publication date: January 4, 2024Applicant: GM Cruise Holdings LLCInventors: Jaimin Liang-Yan Hsu, Charles Bruce Matlack, Sarah M. Publication number: 20210364305Abstract: A map database stores data describing a set of connected roadways, each having one or more lanes. A navigation system selects a route for an autonomous vehicle (AV) by identifying a set of candidate lanes for routing the AV in the map database and retrieving at least one parameter of each candidate lane from the map database. The navigation system determines a performance metric for each of the candidate lanes, the performance metric for a given candidate lane based on the retrieved at least one parameter of the given candidate lane. The navigation system selects a candidate lane for routing the AV based at least in part on the determined performance metrics.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 19, 2020Publication date: November 25, 2021Applicant: GM Cruise Holdings LLCInventors: Sarah Rizk, Zachary Wright Garcia, Chen Xie, John Habeb Khawam, Varun Bharadwaj, Christopher Brian Roland, Riccardo Pavesi, Anmol Garg, Anusha Sridhar Rao, Charles Bruce Matlack, Michael Rusignola
