  • Patent number: 8087452
Abstract: A high performance cold plate cooling device including multiple, relatively thin plates, each having patterns formed thereon that, as arranged within the device, cause turbulence in a fluid passing within the cooling device. Adjacent plates within the cooling device are arranged such that fluid channels within their patterns are arranged crosswise. One or more barriers extending at least a portion of the length of the device separate the crosswise channels into two or more flow sections and increase uniformity of thermal performance over the active plate area. Manufacturing of the device includes stacking the plates in an alternating fashion such that the channels within the pattern of each plate are crosswise with respect to the channels in the pattern of an adjacent plate and adjacent barrier walls abut.
    Type: Grant

    Assignee: Lytron, Inc.
Inventors: Richard Goldman, Boris Akselband, Charles Gerbutavich, Charles Carswell

  • Publication number: 20060187639
Abstract: A cooling system for a heat-generating component on a circuit board requires no fluid connections to be made or broken in order to install or remove the circuit board. In the cooling system, a heat collection device is mountable in heat transfer contact with a hot component on the circuit board. A heat removal device has a board-side device mountable to the circuit board and a complementary off-board device mountable off the circuit board. Fluid lines form a closed circulatory flow path between the heat collection device and the board-side device of the heat removal device. The board-side device and the off-board device are fastenable in heat transfer contact to transfer heat off the circuit board.

  • Publication number: 20030196451
Abstract: A high performance cooling device including multiple, relatively thin plates, each having patterns formed thereon that, as arranged within the device, cause turbulence in a fluid passing within the cold plate. Adjacent ones of the plates within the cold plate are arranged such that fluid passing channels within their patterns are arranged crosswise. The plates may be arranged such that the fluid passing channels within the adjacent plate patterns are at an included angle of between 36 and 60 degrees. Manufacturing of the device includes stacking the plates in an alternating fashion such that the channels within the pattern of each plate are crosswise with respect to the channels in the pattern of an adjacent plate. A pair of end plates, which are stacked at the top and bottom of the assembly, do not have an etched pattern and allow for fluid input and output ports. During operation of the disclosed device, the ports bring fluid, such as a coolant, into and out of the device.

  • Patent number: 3951147
Abstract: A rechargeable infusate pump for implantation in the human body can be refilled periodically by injection through an inlet septum under the skin. A conduit from the pump outlet conducts fluid to an infusion site in the body. The needle penetrating the septum protrudes into an antechamber and discharges fluid and any foreign matter is trapped in the antechamber so that it cannot enter the pump chamber and possibly clog the pump outlet. This foreign material is removed by injecting a needle into the antechamber and drawing a vacuum to suck out the debris. The pump also has a special ring-like outlet filter in the fluid stream between the pump chamber and its outlet to provide a maximum amount of filter area in a minimum amount of space and the pump outlet includes a special flow controller which is able to very accurately meter the infusate to the selected body site.
