Patent number: 8931813Abstract: A rotary lock including a housing having a strike channel shaped to receive a strike component and a latch member including at least one strike engaging member. The latch member is rotatable between an unlatched position, a secondary latch position and a primary latch position. A keeper member is moveable between a disengaged position, a secondary keeper position, and a primary keeper position. A lock member is moveable between a lock position and an unlock position. The lock member and/or a lock actuator is non-movable to the lock position when the latch member is in the secondary latch position, thereby providing indicia that the latch member is not fully latched in a primary latch position. Methods of assembly and use are also provided.Type: GrantFiled: May 24, 2010Date of Patent: January 13, 2015Assignee: A.L. Hansen Manufacturing Co.Inventors: Douglas L. Juga, Charles E. Bullock

Patent number: 8430435Abstract: A slam latch includes a housing and a pair of slide latch components biased toward a strike channel by springs. Each of the slide latch components is independently slideable in a track between a locking position, wherein the slide latch components extend into the strike channel, and a strike receiving position, wherein the slide latch components are slideably moved away from the strike channel into the tracks against the biasing force of the springs. A modular latch kit provides for one of the latch components to be replaced with a plug so as to block any opening on that side of the strike channel. A method of assembling a latch includes selecting either a combination of a latch component and a spring, or a plug, and disposing the selected combination or the plug in the housing.Type: GrantFiled: March 17, 2010Date of Patent: April 30, 2013Assignee: A.L. Hansen Manufacturing Co.Inventors: Douglas L. Juga, Charles E. Bullock

Publication number: 20080179898Abstract: A latch assembly includes a mounting member having opposite first and second terminal end portions spaced apart in a longitudinal direction and an actuator coupled to the mounting member. One or more extension members having a terminal end portion are secured to one of the terminal end portions of the mounting member. One or more latch devices are coupled to the extension member at a location longitudinally spaced from the terminal end portion of the extension member. The latch device is operable between a latched and unlatched position. The latch device is operatively coupled to the actuator and is moveable between the latched and unlatched positions as the actuator is operated between a first and second position. A latch device includes a housing and a guide member adjustably moveable relative to the housing in a first direction. The guide member has an opening extending along a second direction substantially perpendicular to the first direction.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 30, 2007Publication date: July 31, 2008Inventors: Douglas L. Publication number: 20080169395Abstract: A hook assembly includes a mounting member having an opening defining a vertical axis. A hook member is removeably secured to the mounting member through the opening. In one embodiment, the mounting member includes a retainer slideably coupled to a mounting rail, with the retainer slideable along the mounting rail in the longitudinal direction to a plurality of positions. A method of assembling a hook assembly includes mounting a mounting member to a surface defining a plane and successively threading a hook portion and a shaft portion of a J-shaped hook member through an opening in the mounting member without breaking the plane with the hook member.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 16, 2007Publication date: July 17, 2008Inventor: Charles E. Patent number: 7110966Abstract: An interactive method for on-line selection of an air conditioning product includes the steps of providing a database storing a plurality of air conditioning product identifiers and at least one corresponding product characteristic; interactively obtaining intended use information from a consumer for a desired air conditioning product; equating the intended use information with an intended use product characteristic; identifying a suitable product having the at least one product characteristic meeting the intended use product characteristic; and identifying the suitable product to the consumer.Type: GrantFiled: January 28, 2000Date of Patent: September 19, 2006Assignee: Carrier CorporationInventors: Christopher J. Patent number: 6748776Abstract: A locking handle assembly includes a support member and a door comprising a longitudinally extending edge. The door is moveable between a closed position, wherein the door defines a plane and the edge is positioned adjacent the support member, and an open position. A first lock receiving member is mounted to the support member and a handle is pivotally mounted to the support member. The handle is pivotable between a locked position and an unlocked position about a pivot axis oriented substantially perpendicular to the plane of the closed door. The handle includes an elongated grippable member and a second lock receiving member. The handle does not extend across the edge of the door when the handle is in the unlocked position such that the door is moveable between the closed and open positions. The elongated grippable member extends across the edge of the door when the handle is in the locked position, wherein the first and second lock receiving members are aligned when handle is in the locked position.Type: GrantFiled: September 23, 2002Date of Patent: June 15, 2004Assignee: A. L. Hansen Manufacturing Co.Inventors: Charles E. Bullock, William S. Hansen, II

Publication number: 20030066165Abstract: A hinge includes first and second leaves The first hinge leaf includes a hook having a hook opening that faces generally toward a mounting surface. The second hinge leaf includes an integral pin that is rotatably positioned within the hook, and the second hinge leaf defines a recess sized to receive the first hinge leaf when the hinge is closed. The mounting surface obstructs the opening in the hook, thereby preventing the pin from moving out of the hook when the hinge is mounted in place. The hook is preferably shaped to receive the pin in a snap fit to hold the two hinge leaves together prior to the time the hinge is mounted in place.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 9, 2001Publication date: April 10, 2003Applicant: A.L Hansen Mfg. Patent number: 5586459Abstract: A locking handle includes a base and a handle rotatably mounted to the base. A well is formed in the handle, and this well communicates with a key opening in a front portion of the handle and a loading opening in a rear portion of the handle. A shaft is mounted in the well via the loading opening to rotate with the handle, and this shaft forms a recess adjacent the key opening. A lock cylinder including a key receiving slot and a locking element is positioned in the recess to rotate in unison with the handle, with the key slot aligned with the key opening. The lock is dimensioned to pass through the loading opening, and the locking element passes outside of the shaft to releasably engage the base and thereby selectably lock the handle against rotation with respect to the base.Type: GrantFiled: May 16, 1995Date of Patent: December 24, 1996Assignee: A. Patent number: 5562316Abstract: A bar lock for securing a door in a closed position in a frame includes a bar that forms a first interlocking profile extending along its length. The bar is mounted for rotation in first and second hinges by first and second hinge elements. The first and second hinge elements define a second interlocking profile shaped to mate with the first interlocking profile to restrict the hinge elements to axial movement along the length of the bar. The interlocking profiles maintain alignment and facilitate welding of the hinge elements in place on the bar. A similar approach can be used to facilitate assembly of a handle bracket to the bar. An elastomeric strip is affixed in a groove extending along the length of the bar to cushion contact between the bar and the door.Type: GrantFiled: February 3, 1995Date of Patent: October 8, 1996Assignee: A.
