  • Publication number: 20240227985
Abstract: Disclosed herein are systems employing a power generating buoy separate from a host buoy but connected via tether, allowing the power generating buoy to be distant from the host buoy (e.g. an observational buoy) so as to minimize the impact of the power generating buoy on the host buoy. The tether is connected at one end to the power generating buoy and connectable to a floating host buoy, wherein the tether further comprises means for transferring power generated by the power-generating buoy to the host buoy; and wherein the tether is adapted to allow for independent movement of the power-generating buoy relative to the host buoy, and has no substantial hydrodynamic effect on or from the host buoy when connected.

  • Patent number: 5924687
Abstract: A hopper and feeder assembly for feeding newspapers to be collated or assembled for delivery is provided which includes a reciprocating feeder device employing roller clutch and bearing wheel assemblies. The roller clutch and bearing wheel assemblies lock during frictional engagement with the lowermost newspaper in the stack during a forward feed stroke to push the newspaper forward to nip rollers. The narrow feeder device permits a sharp ridge to be formed as the nip rollers snap down to bend the lowermost newspaper in the stack over the wheel assemblies. The roller clutch and bearing wheel assemblies are mounted on a rail to provide a narrow newspaper engagement surface and corresponding narrow ridge formed in the newspaper.

  • Patent number: 5145078
Abstract: An improved pilfer-proof screw-on bottle cap having a ring section attached thereto with frangible bridges, wherein the ring section has at least four inwardly extending molded-in-place hooks. The hooks are circumferentially positioned at the edge of the ring section distal to the cap and engage a radially extending bead on the bottle, thereby preventing upward movement of the ring section together with removal of the bottle cap. The frangible bridges break under continued removal forces, thereby causing the ring section to become detached as an indication of tampering. The frangible bridges are located relative to the radially extending bead of the bottle at a position proximate to and no higher than the lower edge of the bead.

  • Patent number: 5007554
Abstract: A non-removable fulcrum-type lift tab, for opening a metal beverage container, is modified, by the inclusion of a lanced line at a position between the fulcrum pivoting line and the pushing end of the tab. The lanced line extends in a direction substantially perpendicular to the fulcrum-directed pushing force used to open the container, whereby, upon initial lifting of the tab, the lanced line opens, in a limited material separation. This results in substantially less lifting force (about 30% less), being needed to elevate the tab end about 1/4 inch (about 6 mm) for a finger to be more easily inserted for completion of the opening of the container. At this stage, the ends of the lanced line, such as in the configuration of drilled holes or inwardly arcuate lanced sections, stop continued material separation by providing a high resistance to such separation.

  • Patent number: 4699592
Abstract: A connector to prevent tangling of a cord having a modular plug at its end which is to be connected to a telephone handset. The connector has a first part which is rotatable relative to a second part with the modular plug of the cord being attached to the connector first part at an angle off of the central axis of the connector, preferably 90 degrees, so that movement of the cord or handset causes the first part to be rotated relative to the second part. The second part of the connector can be integral with the telephone handset.

  • Patent number: 4699591
Abstract: A connector for a modular telephone handset having a first part with modular terminal means thereon for connection to the modular terminal means of the handset and a second part coupled to the first part for rotation relative thereto. The second part has a modular receptacle terminal located at a fixed angle which is displaced from the common axis of the connector, said angle being greater than 0.degree. and less than 180.degree., and preferably about 90.degree., to accept an external modular terminal on an attached cord which can be twisted. The movement of the cord relative to the connector first part, by movement of either the cord or the handset, providing a torque force to the second part at said angle so that the second part rotates relative to the first part to prevent twisting of the cord.
