Abstract: Test means, such as a composition or device, method of making a test device and process for determination of at least one oxidizing substance, such as a peroxide, are disclosed. More particularly, the contemplated test means comprises a hydrazone and a hydroxynapthalenesulfonate selected from the group 4,5-dihydroxy-2,7-naphthalene disulfonic acid (chromotropic acid) and 1-hydroxy-2-naphthalene sulfonic acid. Further provided is a test system for the determination of a constituent in a sample, having means responsive to the presence of said constituent in said sample to produce at least one oxidizing substance and a composition for determining said at least one oxidizing substance, having the improvement wherein said composition comprises a hydrazone and a hydroxynapthalenesulfonate selected from the group of 4,5-dihydroxy-2,7-naphthalene disulfonic acid and 1-hydroxy-2-naphthalene sulfonic acid.

Abstract: A test composition and device are disclosed for determining the presence of peroxidatively active substances, such as hemoglobin, in a test sample. Also disclosed is a one-dip method for preparing the device.The test composition comprises:An organic hydroperoxide,An indicator capable of producing a detectable response in the presence of a hydroperoxide and a peroxidatively active substance, andA borate ester having the structure ##STR1## in which m, n and p, same or different, are integers of 1 to about 4. The test device comprises a carrier matrix incorporated with the test composition.

Abstract: A test composition is disclosed which is useful in determining the presence of a peroxidatively active substance, such as hemoglobin, in a test sample. The composition comprises an organic hydroperoxide, an indicator capable of producing a detectable response in the presence of a peroxide, and a diluent having the structure ##STR1## IN WHICH R.sub.1 and R.sub.2, same or different, are hydrogen, alkyl or alkoxy having 1 to about 6 carbon atoms, or aryl. The method comprises preparing the test composition and incorporating it with a carrier matrix.

Abstract: A test composition, device, and method for determining the presence of a peroxidatively active substance in a sample are disclosed. The composition comprisesA. an organic hydroperoxide,B. an indicator capable of producing a detectable response in the presence of a hydroperoxide and a peroxidatively active substance,C. a diluent compound having the structure ##STR1## or mixtures thereof, in which R.sub.1 and R.sub.2, same or different, are hydrogen, alkyl or alkoxy having 1 to about 6 carbon atoms, or aryl, andD. a borate ester having the structure ##STR2## in which m, n and p, same or different, are integers of 1 to about 4. The device comprises a carrier matrix incorporated with the composition, and the method comprises contacting a sample, suspected of containing a peroxidatively active substance, with said composition.

Abstract: Improved test compositions, devices and methods are provided for detecting peroxidatively active substances in body fluids, excreta and the like. In the type of test compositions including an indicator capable of being oxidized in the presence of a peroxidatively active substance to provide a color change, an oxidizing agent effective to oxidize said indicator, and a potentiating agent, the improvement comprises the use as said potentiating agent of an acid salt or adduct of a compound selected from the class of compounds of the general formula ##SPC1##Wherein R.sub.1 is hydrogen, lower alkyl, hydroxy or thiophenyl; R.sub.2 is hydrogen or lower alkyl; R.sub.3 is hydrogen or lower alkyl; R.sub.4 is hydrogen, carboxy, lower alkyl or lower alkoxy; and R.sub.5 is hydrogen or lower alkyl.
