  • Patent number: 8154255
Abstract: Systems and methods for waking up a battery system (e.g., battery pack such as a smart battery pack) installed in an information handling system from a shipping mode in response to the occurrence of one of at least two detected events. The first of these of these at least two events is detection of the battery system being removed and reinstalled into operational electrical contact with the information handling system, and the second of these at least two events is the activation of a user input device provided for the battery system.

  • Publication number: 20120023339
Abstract: A power supply system includes a battery and a power management system. The power management system is coupled to the battery and to an external power source that is operable to charge the battery using a first charge level. The power management system is operable to determine that a battery power level of the battery is greater than a first predetermined level that depends on a battery storage option and, in response, disable power from being supplied from the external power source such that power is supplied from the battery until the battery power level is below the first predetermined level. The power management system is also operable to determine that the battery power level of the battery is less than the first predetermined level and, in response, charge the battery with a second charge level that is less than the first charge level until the battery power level is above a second predetermined level that depends on the battery storage option.

  • Publication number: 20110276810
Abstract: Desktop power use behavior may be detected while a portable information handling system or any other type of battery powered information handling, system is operating on external power such as an AC adapter. The desktop power use behavior may be detected by monitoring one or more power usage parameters to detect usage characteristics that indicate a battery powered information handling system is being operated in a manner that is similar to operation of a desktop information handling system. Upon detection of desktop behavior, one or more processing devices of the information handling system may respond by taking one or more desktop use response actions.

  • Patent number: 8022671
Abstract: A battery includes a cell and a battery management unit coupled to the cell. The battery management unit is operable to determine whether a battery controller is operating when the cell is coupled to an information handling system that includes the battery controller. In response to determining that the battery controller is not operating, the battery management unit is operable to determine whether the cell comprises a battery voltage that is below a predetermined voltage level.

  • Publication number: 20100019730
Abstract: A battery includes a battery chassis defining a housing. A tamper detection system is located in the housing and is operable to detect an access of the housing. A disabling system is located in the housing, coupled to the tamper detection system, and operable to disable a power supply function in response to the tamper detection system detecting the access of the housing.

  • Publication number: 20090206797
Abstract: The disclosure provides a method for charging a battery in an information handling system. The method includes prompting a user to select from a plurality of charging modes for the battery, wherein the charging modes comprise a first mode, a second mode, or a third mode. The method further includes charging the battery in the first mode when the first mode is selected, wherein a charge voltage and a charge current are constant In the first mode, and charging the battery dynamically when the second mode or the third mode is selected, wherein the charge current changes dynamically based on a battery temperature.
