  • Publication number: 20100103900
Abstract: The present invention relates to a beamforming device in an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing access system, and a method thereof. In the method, a switched beamforming algorithm is applied to perform downlink beamforming, and an adaptive beamforming algorithm is applied to perform uplink receiving beamforming. In addition, a half wavelength array antenna is used to simultaneously allocate the same resource to two terminals separately positioned in two different spaces, so as to support spatial division multiple access (SDMA). In this case, since a base station uses channel status information at transmitter (CSIT) for transmitting beamforming and receiving beamforming, the SDMA may be supported without obtaining additional channel status information at receiver (CSIR) when realizing the uplink receiving beamforming.

  • Publication number: 20080214218
Abstract: The present invention relates to a maximum ratio combining method of spatial-filtered received signals and an apparatus using the same. For this purpose the present invention provides a method for receiving signals by using a plurality of antennas that form a linear array antenna, multiplying a plurality of weight vectors by the received signals, summing the multiplication results for each weight vector, and combining the summing results by using maximum ratio combining. According to the present invention, signals are dividedly received by applying spatial filtering for a receiving direction of each signal and performance can be improved by combining the received signals by using maximum ratio combining. In addition, performance of an MRC-rake and a beam forming gain can be simultaneously acquired according to the present invention.

  • Publication number: 20080095251
Abstract: The present invention relates to a system for selecting a switched beam for supplying a maximum received power to a subscriber station, and a method thereof. The number of switched beams used by a base station is limited, and a weight value vector for forming the switched beam is predefined. The subscriber station uses a pilot signal for discerning transmitting antennas to estimate channel values for the respective transmitting antennas, and uses the channel values and the predefined weight value vectors to determine a switched beam for supplying a maximum signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). The subscriber station notifies the base station of an identifier of a selected beam by using a feedback channel, and the base station uses the switched beam to transmit traffic data.

  • Publication number: 20080043858
Abstract: Disclosed are a method for constructing a frame preamble in an OFDM wireless communication system, and a method for acquiring frame synchronization and searching cells using the preamble. The preamble is arranged at the beginning of a frame and constructed of a pattern repeated an integer number of times, and a CP. The pattern has a length shorter than a single OFDM symbol interval. The length of the repetitive pattern is not limited to an integer number of times a single OFDM symbol interval. Frame synchronization can be acquired by observing cross-correlation of a received signal and reference patterns and detecting the moment when the absolute value of the cross-correlation exceeds a predetermined threshold. Otherwise, frame synchronization can be acquired by observing auto-correlation of the received signal using repeated patterns included in the received signal and detecting the moment when the absolute value of the auto-correlation becomes the maximum value.

  • Publication number: 20070263743
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for allocating data and pilots, a transmitting method and device, a receiving method and device in an OFDMA system. A terminal partitions subcarrier groups and symbols from an uplink channel based on a basic pilot pattern generated by a specific reference, receives at least one subchannel based on the partitioned subcarrier groups and symbols, hops the subcarrier groups caused by the subchannel according to hopping patterns, allocates data, and differently positions the pilots per subcarrier group based on the basic pilot pattern. Accordingly, the probability of pilot collision between adjacent cells is reduced, and accuracy of channel estimation is increased through boosting the pilot subcarrier power.
