    Abstract: The invention provides a light sensitive photographic silver halide emulsion layer having associated therewith a magenta coupler having formula I: ##STR1## wherein: R represents a ballasted monosubstituted amino group which enables the coupler to form, upon development with 4-amino-3-methyl-N-ethyl-N-(2-hydroxyethyl)aniline sulfate developing agent, a magenta dye having a wavelength of maximum absorbance of 545 nm or greater; andX represents hydrogen or a coupling-off group. The resulting dye has an improved spectral absorption curve.
