A measuring device for generating a consumption signal that is a function of an amperage of the operating current being operated in the current path is disclosed. After the activation command has been transmitted the power control unit uses the consumption signal to determine whether the amperage is still above a threshold value that is specified for the low-consumption mode, and in this case a predetermined emergency measure is initiated to force the low-consumption mode and/or to reduce the amperage.
