  • Patent number: 10438287
Abstract: Systems and methods for electronic transformation of a portfolio via an electronic exchange server are provided. The electronic exchange server transforms an initial portfolio (e.g., a non-hedged trading portfolio) into a transformed portfolio (e.g., a hedged trading portfolio) by receiving buy or sell orders of an initial portfolio to be transformed, determining an imbalance in the received buy or sell orders, and receiving offsetting buy or sell orders to offset the imbalance. The transformation can be performed, for example, by comparing data from the buy or sell orders with data from the offsetting buy or sell orders, pairing the buy or sell orders with the offsetting buy or sell orders, determining a final auction price, determining an adjustment amount, applying the adjustment amount to the final auction price to determine a final settlement price, and applying the final settlement price to the initial portfolio.

  • Publication number: 20080235146
Abstract: Methods and systems that provide a post-trade affirmation and messaging service. This service allows parties to affirm trades with their counterparties prior to processing. The addition of this affirmation layer helps ensure that all the key economic details of the trade including allocations, reference entity, payment dates etc. are agreed to between both counterparties immediately after execution.

  • Patent number: 7189468
Abstract: A lightweight direct methanol fuel cell unit (20) comprising a fuel cell stack (24) enclosed within a housing (22). In one embodiment the fuel cell stack includes a plurality of polymer electrolyte membrane electrode assemblies (52) stacked alternatingly with a plurality of bipolar plates (48). Each bipolar plate includes a cathode flow field (78) defined by a porous cathode flow field structure (56) and an anode flow field (62) defined by an upper plate (58) and a lower plate (60) separated from one another by a plurality of spacers (64). The anode flow fields are manifolded with one another via manifold embossments (118, 120) that are hermetically sealed with one another with a gasket (126). The fuel cell stack and housing are shaped so as to form four manifold regions (36) in the spaces between the fuel cell stack and housing.

  • Patent number: 6397936
Abstract: A freeze tolerant condenser (106) for a two-phase heat transfer system is disclosed. The condenser includes an enclosure (110) and a porous artery (112) located within and extending along the length of the enclosure. A vapor space (116) is defined between the enclosure and the artery, and a liquid space (114) is defined by a central passageway within the artery. The artery includes a plurality of laser-micromachined capillaries (130) extending from the outer surface of the artery to its inner surface such that the vapor space is in fluid communication with the liquid space. In one embodiment of the invention, the capillaries (130) are cylindrical holes having a diameter of no greater than 50 microns. In another embodiment, the capillaries (130′) are slots having widths of no greater than 50 microns. A method of making an artery in accordance with the present invention is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6379789
Abstract: A composite emitter (100) for a thermophotovoltaic cell and other applications, and a method of forming the composite emitter. The composite emitter includes a substrate (102) and a selective emitter layer (104) composed of at least one substantially pure ceramic oxide selective emitter material applied to the substrate using a thermal spraying method. The substrate is preferably made of a durable material such as a silicon-based material or a refractory metal oxide. In one embodiment, the selective emitter layer may be composed of two or more selective emitter materials. In another embodiment, the composite emitter may further include a reflective metal layer (106). The method includes providing a substrate and plasma spraying one or more selective emitter materials onto the substrate to a thickness of between about 10 microns and about 400 microns to form the selective emitter layer.

  • Patent number: 4808079
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a magnetic pump for pumping ferrofluids. The magnetic pump in its simplest form has at least two coils which are electrically connected to a multi-phase power source to produce a traveling electromagnetic field. In close proximity to the coils and substantially normal to the axis of the coils is a tube which defines the path of fluid flow. It is preferred that the coils be embedded in a stator of ferromagnetic material and that the stator be cylindrical. Preferably the tube is wound about the cylindrical stator either internal to or external to the stator. In a preferred embodiment of the present invention the tube is placed in an annular gap between cylindrical stators of different diameter and having coils energized so as to produce reinforcing traveling magentic fields.
